PEN containers

PEN film for audio- and videotape and various electronic appHcations and blow molded PEN containers for hot-fill appHcations are already being marketed in Japan. NDA is unlikely to ever become as inexpensive as terephthaUc acid but novel NDA-based polyesters will become available if a market need exists. One example could be the experimental polyester PBN (Celanese Corp.) this is the NDA analogue of PBT, poly(l,4-butylene naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylate) [28779-82-0]. It has a high rate of crystallization, faster even than that of PBT, and its combination of physical properties is weU-suited for injection molding. [Pg.293]

Interestingly, research has started on single chamber SOFC (SC-SOFC) concepts. However, the SC-SOFC exhibits inherently low power density and is therefore primarily of academic interest. It has the potential to relax cell component requirements and probably to ease manufacture. The principle of SC-SOFC is that it is fed by an air fuel mixture which flows onto the PEN contained in a single compartment, avoiding the use of gas separator plates and high temperature sealants. The fluid may flow simultaneously or sequentially along the electrodes. Both electrodes are either built onto the same side of the electrolyte some distance apart or on opposite sides. Low temperature operation would apparently suppress direct combustion of the air fuel mixture provided the electrode materials chosen are highly selective towards their respective catalytic reactions. SC-SOFC stacks may hold prospects in specific applications where the reaction products are the prime focus. [Pg.10]

Therapeutic formulations contain a recombinant form of IFN-a (either interferon alfa-2a or interferon alfa-2b). These are available as powders for reconstitution or as prefilled injection pens. The drug is administered by subcutaneous injection (or intravenous for reconstituted powder formulations) and intramuscular injection. The dosage is usually stated as units per millilitre (refer to BNF for various preparations and dosages). Powder formulations of interferon alfa-2b also contain glycine, sodium phosphate (mono- and dibasic) and human albumin prefilled pens contain sodium chloride, edetate disodium, polysorbate 80 and m-cresol as a preservative. [Pg.333]

One additional type of peripheral—the light pen—can also be connected to this port. (On those models with more than one joystick port, the light pen can be connected only to port 1.) The pen contains a phototransistor that switches when it detects the electron beam of the video display sweeping past. A line is connected from the phototransistor through the port to the chip that generates the video signal (the VIC chip in the VIC, the VIC-H chip in the 64 and 128, and the TED chip in the Plus/4 and 16). [Pg.19]

Palatability Trials. Two to five sheep were placed in a pen containing a feeder with four movable compartments. The compartments were numbered and their positions randomized each day. Two feeds were compared in each pen. Each day a known amount of feed was placed in each compartment and the position was determined at random. Twenty-four hours later the refusals were removed, weighed, and fresh feed added. A normal test period was seven days. The first trial was designed to determine the relative palatability of hemicellulose and molasses. The basal ration consisted of timothy hay, 68% com, 28.16% 44% CP soybean oil meal, 2.31% urea, 0.77% dicalcuim phosphate, 0.26% salt, iodized, 0.50% and vitamin A and D concentrate to meet NRC requirements. Other rations were prepared by removing com and increasing the soybean meal and adding 5% dry matter from cane molasses, LHC, dried molasses, or dried LHC. [Pg.310]

Try to design a hypothesis you can test using this experiment, such as whether or not the leaves of different plants contain the same pigments, or whether different markers or pens contain the same inks. [Pg.284]

PENT-8 Reusable Baby Milk Bottle. Although polycarbonate (PC) has traditionally been the preferred alternative to glass in reusable baby milk bottles, health concerns with PC usage have been raised in some countries about possible presence of residual bisphenol A. The use of a high PEN-containing copolymer, PENT-8, has been demonstrated to provide a bisphenol A free substitute for PC. In Korea, Kolon has found that PENT-8 has adequate Tg (123"C) to withstand required sterilization in boiling water (20). At the same time, the lower melting point of PENT-8 (250°C) relative to PEN (268°C) makes it processable at PET melt conditions. [Pg.5791]

Most of the chemicals listed in Table 11.2 target the respiratory and central nervous systems. Exposures in arts and crafts use are almost always to mixtures of lipophilic and hydrophilic chemicals. When used in areas with poor air circulation (as is often the case in home use) unexpected acute toxicity can result [3]. For example, it has been reported that exposure to formaldehyde and terpene hydrocarbons at very low levels unexpectedly produced dyspnea and other lower lung symptoms in woodworkers. The effects could not be attributed to either formaldehyde or terpenes alone at low levels of exposure [4]. In another example, it was reported that chronic exposure to a combination of very low concentrations of MEK, ethyl acetate, and aliphatic hydrocarbons in a leather-adhesive formulation induced unanticipated CNS effects [5]. Some products that are considered by most to be benign contain toxic chemical mixtures. Marker pens contain mixtures of methanol, ethanol, propanols, butanols, butyl acetate, and MIBK. Though such markers are labeled as nontoxic, ... [Pg.130]
