Pea nut

Pea.nuts, The proteins of peanuts are low in lysine, threonine, cystine plus methionine, and tryptophan when compared to the amino acid requirements for children but meet the requirements for adults (see Table 3). Peanut flour can be used to increase the nutritive value of cereals such as cornmeal but further improvement is noted by the addition of lysine (71). The trypsin inhibitor content of raw peanuts is about one-fifth that of raw soybeans, but this concentration is sufficient to cause hypertrophy (enlargement) of the pancreas in rats. The inhibitors of peanuts are largely inactivated by moist heat treatment (48). As for cottonseed, peanuts are prone to contamination by aflatoxin. FDA regulations limit aflatoxin levels of peanuts and meals to 100 ppb for breeding beef catde, breeding swine, or poultry 200 ppb for finishing swine 300 ppb for finishing beef catde 20 ppb for immature animals and dairy animals and 20 ppb for humans. [Pg.301]

The modacrylic fibres have similar properties to those of acrylics and are flame resistant..Mostly this fibre is based on a 60/40 or 50/50 copolymer of acrylonitrile with vinylidine chloride (CH = CCy together with small proportion of ternary monomer to improve ionic dyeability or hydrophilicity. The better known modacrylic fibres have a ribbon-shaped or pea-nut shaped cross-section. One problem encountered with modacrylic fibre is loss of lustre at the boil [83, 84]. This fibre is used for apparel, home furnishing, wigs etc. [Pg.36]

Humans are unable to synthesize thiamine, so they must obtain the vitamin from other sources in which it occurs naturally. The best sources of thiamine are brewer s yeast, whole grains, wheat germ, lean meats, organ meats (such as liver and kidney), fish, dried beans, soybeans, peas, nuts, green leafy vegetables, avocados, raisins, plums, and kelp. Thiamine is also made synthetically by a process that was first developed in the 1930s by American chemist Robert R. [Pg.849]

A problem with vegan diets is whether they can provide snfficient protein and some micronntrients. Foods recommended are whole grains and grain prodncts e.g. wheat, millet, barley, rice, rye, oats, maize, wholemeal breads and pastas) pulses and products made from them (e.g. peas, beans, lentils, tofu) fresh vegetables (including green leafy vegetables and salads) fresh and dried fruits nuts seeds (e.g. sunflower, sesame and pumpkin). [Pg.359]

A small amount of manganese (1.5 to 5.0 milligrams) is required in the diets of humans for normal development of tendon, bones, and some enzymes, and it is thought to be necessary for the body to utilize vitamin Bl. Manganese is found in many foods, including peas, beans, bran, nuts, coffee, and tea. [Pg.100]

Malonaldehyde has been detected in the leaves of pea and cotton plants. It is found in many foodstuffs and can be present at high levels in rancid foods. It has been detected in fish meat, fish oil, rancid salmon oil, rancid nuts, rancid flour, orange juice essence, vegetable oils, fats, fresh frozen green beans, milk, milk fat, lye bread and in raw, cured and cooked meats (United States National Library of Medicine, 1997). [Pg.1038]

Meat and Beans This group contains meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, nuts, and eggs. Two servings a day are sufficient. A serving is three ounces of cooked meat, poultry, or fish, one egg, 1/2 cup cooked dry beans or peas, or one ounce of nuts. The major concern in this group is fat. This can be minimized by choosing low-fat alternatives. Choose the leanest cuts of beef and pork and substitute fish and skinned poultry. [Pg.117]
