Pathways study

Pathways through abstraction and addition-elimination mechanisms may lead to the same product channel. However, they will only compete significantly when the energy and entropy barriers (or free energy barriers AG = AH — TAS) for the two mechanisms are comparable. In these cases, they make excellent candidates for multiple pathway studies because several experimental approaches discussed in Section III are suited to detect the competition. [Pg.217]

With the exception of these fractionation pathways, studies of igneous systems chiefly focus on the potential of Li isotopes as geochemical tracers fingerprinting the cycling of Li derived from specific (low-temperature) sources through the solid Earth. The sections below deal with observations of Li isotopes in high-temperature systems, and the mechanisms for low-temperature fractionation processes are discussed after, imder the heading, Planetary surface systems. ... [Pg.160]

It differs, thereby, from simple redox reactions such as Fe3+ + e Fe2+. Such reactions do not involve an intermediate radical and lack consecutive steps and alternative pathways. Study of their kinetics, therefore, omits characteristics of most electrochemical reactions met, e.g., in electrochemical synthesis, energy conversion and storage, or corrosion. [Pg.481]

It appears difficult to propose a unified mechanism to explain all experimental observations of the cyclotrimerization of acetylene. The most common pathway, studied mainly with cobalt complexes,72 73 involves a metallacyclopentadiene intermediate ... [Pg.731]

Kinetic models which consider demetallation as a complex reaction network of consecutive and parallel reactions taught by model compound studies have been recognized with real feedstocks. Tamm et al. (1981) suggest a sequential mechanism where the metal compounds are activated by H2S. Model compound reaction pathway studies in the absence of H2S, discussed in Section IV,A,1, and experiments in which H2S was present in excess (Pazos et al., 1983) indicate that sequential reactions are inherent to the chemistry of the metal compounds irrespective of the presence of H2S. However, it is possible that both mechanisms contribute to metal removal. [Pg.184]

Polyhaloalkyl-substituted chromones and 7-pyrones react with salicylaldehydes in the presence of piperidine to give a variety of fused 277-chromenes in good yields (Scheme 58) <2006JOC4538>. Although it is conceivable that this reaction could proceed through a Baylis-Hillman reaction pathway, studies of this reaction point to the mechanism being a tandem intramolecular oxa-Michael addition and subsequent Mannich condensation. [Pg.388]

Intrasystem processes and their effects on solute transport can be evaluated by measuring solution chemistry at different stages of a hydrologic pathway. Studies of nitrogen transformations along hydrologic pathways in Amazon catchments have been conducted by McClain et al. (1994) and Brandes et al. (1996). Only Williams et al. (1997b) have addressed the effects of land conversion on... [Pg.266]

Highly fruitful opportunities for combining heuristic operator-network approaches with substantive physical methods are available in various fields of modem stereochemistry. Here conformational calculations make it possible to select the actuaUy realized routes in the internal rotation of molecules or the reorganization of their coordination polyhedra from a complete set of their possible pathways. Study of the kinetics and thermodynamics of particular reactions, in which certain conformers can take part, allows an estimation of their relative reactivity in the evolutionary series of compounds, as shown in Fig. 4.29 for two conformational series of electrically reduced members of the bianthrylidene series. An... [Pg.192]

Total Overlap Population. While the above study of the individual bond overlap populations is helpful in following the changes occurring in the proposed mechanism steps, the total overlap population, presented in Table V, does not appear to be a useful value. The total overlap population is the sum over all pairs of atoms A and B of the overlap population 0P B defined above. All intermediates and products haveDlower total overlap than the reactants, and the apparently lower energy acid catalyzed pathway does not have the largest total overlap of the three pathways studied. [Pg.306]

With regard to the function of HIF, its dimerization partner ARNT is also a dimerization partner for many other transcription factors, among them the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR dioxin receptor). When it was observed that both the xenobiotically induced and hypoxic gene expression used the same dimerization partner, several studies investigated the possibility that one affected the other. While some studies have not been able to show interaction, several others have indicated interaction which may be cell type specific (Gradin et al., 1999 Gassmann et al., 1997 Chan et al., 1999 Nie et al., 2001). There may also be differences in which pathway is preferred (Hofer et al., 2004). In addition to the interaction between aryl hydrocarbon receptor and HIF pathways, studies have indicated an interaction with HIF-pathway and the pathway involved in the generation of diel rhythmicity (Chilov et al., 2001). [Pg.284]
