Path ways

Carbonate rocks are more frequently fractured than sandstones. In many cases open fractures in carbonate reservoirs provide high porosity / high permeability path ways for hydrocarbon production. The fractures will be continuously re-charged from the tight (low permeable) rock matrix. During field development, wells need to be planned to intersect as many natural fractures as possible, e.g. by drilling horizontal wells. [Pg.85]

The 20 ammo acids listed m Table 27 1 are biosynthesized by a number of different path ways and we will touch on only a few of them m an introductory way We will exam me the biosynthesis of glutamic acid first because it illustrates a biochemical process analogous to a reaction we discussed earlier m the context of amine synthesis reductive ammatwn (Section 22 10)... [Pg.1123]

Fructose 1,6-bisphosphatase is inhibited by AMP—a compound that activates phosphofructokinase Elevated AMP thus stimulates path ways that oxidize nutrients to provide energy for the cell. [Note ATP and NADH, produced in large quantities during fasts by catalytic path ways, such as fatty acid oxidation, are required for gluconeogenesis.]... [Pg.120]

Pentose phosphate pathway Summary of the path way Reduced coenzymes produced by the pathway PENTOSE PHOSPHATE PATHWAY (p. 143) Also called the hexose monophosphate shunt, or6-phosphogluconate pathway, the pentose phosphate pathway is found in all cells. It consists of two irreversible oxidative reac tions followed by a series of reversible sugar-phosphate interconversions. No ATP is directly consumed or produced in the cycle, and two NADPH are produced for each glu cose 6-phosphate entering the oxidative part of the pathway. [Pg.481]

Figure 6 Schematic potential energy diagrams for the interaction between O2 and Ag(l 11). Four panels are shown. In (a), the three states into which O2 can adsorb at the surfaces are depicted as a function of a reaction coordinate. In (b), the two potentials leading to direct inelastic scattering are shown. In (c), a trajectory representing a one dimensional representation of transient trapping-desorption in the O2 state is shown. In (d), two path ways leading to dissociative chemisorption are shown. From Kleyn et al. [45],... Figure 6 Schematic potential energy diagrams for the interaction between O2 and Ag(l 11). Four panels are shown. Competing or Parallel Reactions Some time a given substance reacts or decomposes in more than one way. Then the alternate/parallel reaction must also be taken into consideration in analysing the kinetic data. Consider the simplest case of a first order irreversible reactions A —> B + C leading to the formation of two products through different path ways of first order. [Pg.78]

The boron cluster expansion reaction which occurs through the reaction of decaborane with alkynyl pyrimidine is in accord with two path ways of forming c/oso-compounds and m do-compounds. Acetonitrile accelerates decaborane to react and to take the role of a good nucleophile. [Pg.248]

However, in certain cases under photolytic conditions, spectra of the corresponding arylmercury radical cations 6 developed, whereas no mercuration occurred in dark [81] signifying collapse of the ArH +,Hg(TFA)2 radical ion pair 4, provides an alternative path way to Wheeland complex 2 and hence to ArHg(TFA) + 6. Arene radical cations can also be generated from arene and thallium(III) tris-(trifluoroacetate) in trifluoroacetic acid [82], but with a different mechanism proposed by Eberson et al. [83]. Oxidation of anthracene showed 9-trifluoroacetoxy and 9,10-bis(trifluoroacetoxy)anthracene [84, 85], benzo[a]pyrene, 7-methylbenzo-[a]pyrene and 12-methylbenzo[a]pyrene yielded radical cations of 7- and/or 12-trifluoroacetates [86], triptycene (9,10-dihydro-9,10-[l,2]benzanthracene) showed... [Pg.877]

Some itamirLS are water soluble, while others are fat soluble. This classification is valuable as it indicates whether the vitamin is likely to be absorbed similarly to lipids or like other water-soluble nutrients. The fat-soluble vitamins are A, D, E, and K. The water-soluble vitamins arc ascorbic acid, biotin, folate, niacin, pantothenic acid, riboflavin, thiamin, vitamin B i, and vitamin B 2. The classification is also valuable, as it helps chemists decide on the best way to extract and analyze a particular vitamin in foods and biological tissues. Aside from having some bearing on the path ways of absorption and distribution throughout the body, the question of whether a particular vitamin is fat soluble or water soluble has little or no relevance to its function in the body. [Pg.493]

The metabolism of many drugs and foreign compounds is often species dependent. Different animal species may bio-transform a particular xenobiotic by similar or markedly different metabolic pathways. Even within the same species, individual variations (strain differences) may result in significant differences in a specific metabolic path way This... [Pg.128]

For a substrate that is undergoing a bimolecular reaction, as we have noted earlier, there is competition between the substitution and elimination pathways. As the amount of branching increases in the carbon chain, would this favour or disfavour the elimination pathway over the corresponding substitution path-way ... [Pg.278]
