Particle size measurements are usually made from micrographs. The method is extremely tedious if it is done manually. Automatic image analysis of micrographs or an electronic display can reduce the amount of work considerably. Normally a large number of particles (a few hundred) need to be measured. As would be apparent, microscopy produces a particle size distribution based on the numbCT of particles within an appropriate size range. [Pg.138]

New models of zetameters enable automatic measurement of electrophoretic mobility on the basis of the shift of light wave scattered on the particle that moves in the electric field [82]. These tertiary crushers employ smooth or toothed heavy-duty impact and abrasion-resistant steel-rimmed rolls. As already indicated in Chapter 7, the introduction of laser technology has already had a major impact on light-scattering methods. These have found particular application in the development of new methods of particle sizing, and several instruments are now available commercially which arc designed for the automatic determination of particle size distributions. These methods are being developed steadily, especially in terms of the associated computer software needed for the rapid analysis of experimental data.
