PART-LIBRARY

A part library is a world that contains entities (e.g., standard parts) which may be referenced from entities in another world. On the neutral file, the part library is characterized by some descriptive text string. During actual use of the CAD system, each part library will be bound to a list of worlds so that the references can be resolved. 

A routine library is an operating system data set (or a list of them) that contains executable modules of routines. Such routines may be called from the CAD system during an application. They behave similar to macros in that they produce an entity as a result which may be stored in the data base.

Oread Lite version 9.2 can be installed on any system that runs Windows 95, 98, or NT. To install Oread Lite and use the parts shown in this manual, you must run two installation programs. The first installation is for the Oread Lite software. The second installation is for the part libraries that accompany this text. If you do not follow the installation instructions in this appendix, the libraries for this manual will not be installed correctly. 

Several parts have been created for Oread Capture to make this text easier for students to use. In order to have your circuits look like those shown in this manual, you must install the libraries specific to this text. This section shows how to install those libraries. This installation will do two things (1) It will install the parts libraries used in this text. (2) It will copy all circuit files used as examples in this text onto your hard disk so that you can look at and run the example files. The libraries will be copied to the standard library subdirectory. The circuit files will be copied to a directory named Book Circuits in the installation directory. 

The version of Oread Lite described in this manual is Version 9.2 displayed using Windows 2000. The parts libraries described in this manual have been changed slightly from Oread s distribution libraries. New parts were added to make the program simpler for beginning students to use. Please note that the libraries contained in this manual are slightly different from the factory distribution libraries.

The module standard parts catalog, which exists in every modem CAD system, is an easy way to foster product modularity, not only because it provides standard parts (according to national and international standards), but also because it facilitates the insertion of external part libraries and carry-over parts as a CAD functionality. In this case, the designer s activity is limited to the selection, insertion and validation of such parts in an assembly.

Entities are the basic data structures of the schema. They are defined by structured collections of one or more data attributes. An attribute provides detail of part of an entity description. There are mainly two types of attribute, predefined and composite. Predefined attribute types include integer, real, logical, and string. Composite types are declared explicitly in the schema - for example, the attribute type REF PART LIBRARY which indicates a reference to an entity in a part library by grouping the three necessary attributes together will be defined as a composite attribute. Some collections of attributes may appear both as entities and as composite attributes, for example POINT. ... 

Most references in a world (neutral file) will be internal, that is to entities that are transferred on the same file. However, a complete product description often includes a number of individual database files as well as components taken from part libraries. In order to cater for this, "external" references are allowed to entities not transferred on the same file, but which are assumed to reside already in the receiving environment. User-defined names provide the basic means for passing external references. In addition, a special mechanism is provided for referencing entities in part libraries. These references will not be resolved until receiving system starts working with the world it has received. 

REFERENCE(PART LIBRARY) USER DEFINED NAME TYPE ID ... 

This is a reference to an entity in a part library. It is characterized by a reference to the part-library, the user-defined name of the entity which is to be searched for in the part library, and a type identification for this entity to ensure that the binding will be performed only to entities of this type.
