PART-LIBRARY

A part library is a world that contains entities (e.g., standard parts) which may be referenced from entities in another world. On the neutral file, the part library is characterized by some descriptive text string. During actual use of the CAD system, each part library will be bound to a list of worlds so that the references can be resolved. [Pg.50]

A routine library is an operating system data set (or a list of them) that contains executable modules of routines. Such routines may be called from the CAD system during an application. They behave similar to macros in that they produce an entity as a result which may be stored in the data base. [Pg.51]

Entities are the basic data structures of the schema. They are defined by structured collections of one or more data attributes. An attribute provides detail of part of an entity description. There are mainly two types of attribute, predefined and composite. Predefined attribute types include integer, real, logical, and string. Composite types are declared explicitly in the schema - for example, the attribute type REF PART LIBRARY which indicates a reference to an entity in a part library by grouping the three necessary attributes together will be defined as a composite attribute. Some collections of attributes may appear both as entities and as composite attributes, for example POINT. ... [Pg.10]

Most references in a world (neutral file) will be internal, that is to entities that are transferred on the same file. However, a complete product description often includes a number of individual database files as well as components taken from part libraries. In order to cater for this, "external" references are allowed to entities not transferred on the same file, but which are assumed to reside already in the receiving environment. User-defined names provide the basic means for passing external references. In addition, a special mechanism is provided for referencing entities in part libraries.
