Parkinsonism naturally occurring

CgHiiNO. M.p. 282 C (decomp.). The naturally occurring substance is laevorotatory. It is an amino-acid isolated from various plant sources, but not found in the animal body. It is formed from tyrosine as the first stage in the oxidation of tyrosine to melanin. It is used in the treatment of Parkinson s disease. 

Systemic exposure of adult rats to epoxo-micin, a naturally occurring proteasome inhibitor, causes progressive parkinsonism in these animals. This supports both the postulated pathomechanism of proteasome dysfunction in P D and the hypothesis of environmental causation of the disease [26]. 

One important discovery took place during the 1990s when scientists found naturally occurring cannabinoid molecules in mammals, including humans, and cannabinoid receptors in the brain and the body. Researchers identified about half a dozen of these cannabinoids in the human body, which made them want to look more closely at the hundreds of cannabinoids found in marijuana. There are multitudes of namrally occurring diseases of the central nervous system, including degenerative, traumatic, neoplastic, and metabolic disorders. Naturally occurring diseases for which there are potential models include models for include Parkinson s disease (PD), Huntington s disease (HD), Alzheimer s disease (AD), cerebral ischemia, miscellaneous neoplastic conditions, and lysosomal storage diseases. Examples of selected animal models of human disease will be briefly suimnarized. 

The naturally occurring amino acid L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-dopa) was first synthesized as D,L-racemate. D,L-dopa exerted significant effects on glucose metabolism and arterial blood pressure. It has also been found to be effective against Parkinson s disease. 

Dopamine replacanent - This most effective treatment for Parkinson s disease is supplied by the naturally-occurring amino acid levodopa (I, L-3, -dihydroxyphenylalanine " ). In the usual oral doses of 2.5 to 6 g daily it enters the brain and is deceurboxylated to form dopamine (II)... 

For most patients fluctuations are variations in the severity of motor manifestations of Parkinson s disease. However, other types of fluctuations can also occur, many of which are of non-motor in nature these include sensory fluctuations (pain and paresthesia), akathisia or restless legs, autonomic fluctuations (dyspnea, tachycardia, pallor, blood pressure changes, dysphagia, penile erection, urinary frequency) or cognitive effects, such as hallucinations, depression, hypomania, or hypersexuality.
