Oxidisable chemicals

Synthetic rubbers are also used for particular applications. Hypalon (trademark, E. I. du Pont de Nemours) has a good resistance to strongly oxidising chemicals and can be used with nitric acid. It is unsuitable for use with chlorinated solvents. Viton (trademark, E. I. du Pont de Nemours) has a better resistance to solvents, including chlorinated solvents, than other rubbers. Both Hypalon and Viton are expensive, compared with other synthetic, and natural, rubbers. [Pg.303]

Oxygen + inorganic elements led to oxidised chemicals such as sulfate, nitrate and Fe3+, which became part of the environment as in the modem sea. Any such reaction results in a loss of some stored energy over that which would have... [Pg.255]

Fig. 11.7 A diagram representing the development of our ecosystem. Time is along the axis of the cone with separation of oxidised chemicals in the environment and reduced chemicals in increasing numbers of chemotypes, see text. The Darwinian tree of species evolution fits into the cone and has linear connectivity while the ecological cone is continuously filled. The upper side-figure indicates the extent of each zone and the species in it. The lower side-figure shows the increase of use of energy, the rate of entropy production, with time. The acids and oxidising chemicals required for the dissolution of biological material will be discussed for each element separately. [Pg.384]

The chemical name for Hypalon is chlorosulfonated polyethylene and it has excellent resistance to heat, ozone and oxidising chemicals and has good abrasion resistance. It can be compounded for outstanding resistance to oxidising chemicals, such as sodium hypochlorite solutions in sulfuric acid saturated with chlorine and concentrated phosphoric acid. It is one of the few synthetic rubbers that can be mixed in any colour without loss in mechanical properties. [Pg.60]

As for any electrolyser, the membrane has to be mechanically stable to eventually support pressure. It has to be chemically stable regarding reducing and oxidising chemicals (O2 and H2) and gastight to avoid gas recombination. The membrane has to be a good protonic conductor and a poor electronic one. Moreover, it has to resist temperature (up to 100-120°C) and pressure (up to 30 bar or more). [Pg.590]

This material, also called Hypalon, shows its strength when exposed to high temperatures and oxidising chemicals it has excellent resistance to ozone and weathering. This accounts for its success in roofing, belting, and wire and cable. [Pg.459]

The complexes [CpFe(dppm)(CsCR)] (R = Bu. C02Me, SiMc3, Ph etc.) and the related [Cp Fe(dppe)((Mi R)] (R = BuK Ph) can be oxidised chemically orclectrochemically to 17-electron monocations which have ESR and MOssbauer spectra indicative of Fe(lII) species. Oxidation of [Cp Fe(dppe)(CsCH)] with Cp2Fe+ followed by treatment with KOBu produces the C4-bridged species [Cp Fe(dppe)(C CC )Fe(dppe)Cp J which itself can be oxidised to mono-and dications. ... [Pg.285]

A modified novolac vinyl ester, providing extreme chemical resistance (e.g. to organic solvents, oxidising chemicals and hot waste gases), with excellent retention of strength and toughness, even at 200 C. [Pg.142]

A furan polymer derivative of fufuryl alcohol and furfural, exhibiting excellent corrosion resistance other than when exposed to some oxidising chemicals. The manufacturers recommendations with regard to catalysis, cure and handling must be strictly adhered to. [Pg.151]

Devaux and Caze reported the characterisation of model composites comprising single UHMWPE fibres embedded in LDPE [47,48], It was shown that an oxidising chemical treatment of the UHMWPE fibre prior to embedding in the LDPE matrix improved the interface between the UHMWPE fibre and the LDPE matrix [48]. Ogawa et al. also reported the creation of unidirectimial UHMWPE fibre-reinforced PE composites [49], The authors report the use of commercial UHMWPE fibre to produce composites by the combination of these fibres with films of HDPE or LDPE to yield composites with >70% fibre weight fraction. [Pg.11]

Substances which are rich in oxygen may react exothermally with other chemicals producing fires and/or explosions. This is more likely when the oxidising chemical reacts with or even comes in contact with... [Pg.4]
