Difluoroboron(III) complexes of pyrromethene systems have been proposed as PDT agents. Thus, preliminary studies on difluoroboron(III) 1,3,5,7,9- pentamethylpyrromethene 2,8-disulfo-nic acid disodium salt (53), developed as a laser dye, show PDT activity in vitro against ovarian adenocarcinoma cells.288 This compound had Amax 500nm (c 100,000M em ) in ethanol, and shows some photoinstability in water. 

Hexamethylmelamine is useful for the treatment of ovarian adenocarcinoma and is frequently combined with cyclophosphamide, cisplatin, and doxorubicin in the treatment of this tumor. It also has some activity against small cell lung cancer. 

Some biflavonoids exhibited cytotoxic/anticancer activity.[34-38] For example, ginkgetin (7) was cytotoxic to hirnian ovarian adenocarcinoma (OVCAR)-3 cells, but not to other cells such as Hep G2 and HeLa.[39] Taiwanhomoflavone-A (8) showed cytotoxicity against several cancer cell lines. [41] In other studies, several hinokiflavone (235)-type biflavonoids such as cryptomerin B (239) and isocryptomerin (237) exhibited potent cytotoxic effects, probably by apoptotic death at low pM concentrations. In another study involving patients with metastatic breast, colorectal and ovarian cancer, increased anti-sTn titers were correlated with better survival. Even if before treatment, elevated titers of antibodies against the mucin MUC1, were correlated with a poor response to immunotherapy, CTL precursors to the MUC1 were detected in carcinoma patients [208], A vaccine using 10 pg/ml MUC1-KLH mixed with Detox was injected s.c. in breast cancer patients treated with cyclophosphamide. D2-40, a clone of podoplanin, is a recently developed commercially available antibody directed against the M2A antigen, a 40,000-kD sialoglycoprotein associated with germ cells and lymphatic endothelium. Chu and colleagues evaluated 53 cases of mesothelioma, 28 cases of reactive pleural tissue, 30 cases of pulmonary adenocarcinoma, 35 cases of renal cell carcinoma, 26 cases of ovarian serous carcinoma, 16 cases of invasive breast carcinoma, 11 cases of prostatic adenocarcinoma, and 7 cases of urothelial carcinoma. The authors found D2-40 expression in 51 of 53 (96%) mesotheliomas, 27 of 28 (96%) reactive pleural tissues, and 17 of 26 (65%) ovarian serous carcinomas. They did not find D2-40 in the other tumors examined. The authors also observed that the neoplastic cells immunostained in a cell membrane distribution. 

NO-ASA is a promising agent for the prevention of HT-29 in human colon adenocarcinoma, Hepa lclc7 mouse liver adenocarcinoma cells (Gao et al. 2006), pancreatic cancer (Ouyang et al. 2006 Rosetti et al. 2006 Tesei et al. 2008), and human ovarian cancer cells (HOCCs) (Bratasz et al. 2006). Moreover, NO-ASA has chemopreventative properties against azoxymethane-induced colon cancer in rats (Rao et al. 2006).
