Organization Resources Counselors, Inc. (ORC) is a Washington, D.C.—based private industry group with many representatives from the chemical industry. There are also a number of organizations that specialize in dealing with drug-related issues, offering support groups, counseling, or helpful statistics and information. Many of these may have local chapters in your area—you can check your phone book to find one near you. [Pg.84]

Because the need is so great, others at a school often are called upon to play a role in addressing mh and psychosocial problems of youth and their families. These include other health professionals (such as school nurses and physicians), instructional professionals (health educators, other classroom teachers, special education staff, resource staff), administrative staff (principals, assistant principals), students (including trained peer counselors), family members, and almost everyone else involved with a school (aides, clerical and cafeteria staff, custodians, bus drivers, paraprofessionals, recreation personnel, volunteers, and professionals-in-training). In addition, some schools are using specialists employed by other public and private agencies, such as health departments, hospitals, and community-based organizations, to provide mh services to students, their families, and school staff. [Pg.29]
