Optimization evaluation

Remediation optimization uses defined approaches to improve the effectiveness and efficiency with which an environmental remedy reaches its stated goals. Optimization approaches might include third-party site-wide optimization evaluations conducted by expert teams, the use of mathematical tools to determine optimal operating parameters or monitoring networks, or the consideration of emerging technologies. Since 1999, U.S. EPA has promoted remediation optimization in the following manner ... [Pg.644]

It has commissioned over 40 third-party optimization evaluations known as Remediation System Evaluations (RSEs) at Superfund, RCRA, and Leaking Underground Storage Tank sites. [Pg.644]

In PAT, one is often faced with the task of building, optimizing, evaluating, and deploying a model based on a limited set of calibration data. In such a situation, one can use model validation and cross-validation techniques to perform two of these functions namely to optimize the model by determining the optimal model complexity and to perform preliminary evaluation of the model s performance before it is deployed. There are several validation methods that are commonly used in PAT applications, and some of these are discussed below. [Pg.408]

A refinery aqueous stream flows at 600 gal/min and contains 15 Ib/hr benzene. The benzene is to be removed at a stripping efficiency of 99.95%. A tray column is to be used. Consider two operating pressures, 2.0 psia and 14.7 psia. With no attempt at optimization, evaluate the parameters that should be considered for design. In keeping with refinery practice, use conventional English units. [Pg.1108]

Energies were calculated for all levels of hydrogen and deuterium with principal quantum number n smaller than 200. Optimally evaluated transitions frequencies between these levels are also available. All the results can be found on the web. ... [Pg.254]

The method described above, which adjusts variables in order to make theory and experiments match best, was applied to the determination of fundamental constants [3]. However, fundamental constants only belong to one of the two types of adjusted variables Z non-calculated energy contributions S (Section 2.1.1) were also evaluated, as mentioned above in Section 2.2.2.3. It is thus possible to optimally predict the energy levels whose 5-contribution was adjusted in [3], by evaluating the right-hand side of formula Eq. (2), which is exact. Their are about two dozen levels whose energy can thus be optimally evaluated the list can be found on the web. ... [Pg.265]

In case of type I endoleak, the origin of the sac is catheterized by placing the catheter between the stentgraft and aortic wall and intra-aneurysmal injection is performed for optimal evaluation of the outflow vessels. [Pg.245]

A method is discussed here, which is based on OSBL conditions. This method can have a profound influence on evaluating project economics and thus determining the project selection. Improper project evaluation could lead to bad investment decisions bad projects are selected and good projects are discarded, which, regrettably, is common in energy optimization evaluations. To avoid the bad investment decisions and determine the true benefits for energy-saving projects, the effects on incremental steam, power, boiler feed water (BFW), and fuel balances must be assessed. A practical example is provided the next to illustrate how this method is applied. [Pg.426]

Confident detection and optimal evaluation of an abnormal segment or loop of small bowel is achieved when the small bowel is well distended, IV contrast has been administered, and thin section (< 1 mm) CT is utilized. Traditionally, positive contrast materials such as dilutebarium or water soluble iodinated solutions have been used to mark and sometimes distend the small bowel at CT (Macari and Balthazar... [Pg.32]

Major clinical indication is represented by the evaluation of patients with suspected Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), in particular in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with Crohn s disease. MR of the small bowel allows an optimal evaluation of parietal inflammatory changes represented by wall thickening and contrast enhancement. [Pg.235]

The efficacy of end-tidal CO2 and transcutaneous CO2 measurements are extremely close for older children and adults. With currently available sensors, the latter has been shown to correlate extremely well with Pac02. Although both can be accurate in assessing stable Paco2 during mechanical ventilation, both can underestimate increases in hypercapnia and can be an optimal evaluation for therapy (19,43,44). [Pg.349]

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the performance of EEG-BCI as a motor imagery characteristic for use as a ubiquitous health service to determine of optimal evaluation performance conditions for a range of subjects. The paper also seeks to determine the average conditions under which maximum performance can be attained with a view to proposing the evaluation technology for use with EEG-BCI-based medical instruments while guaranteeing the safety and confidence of such devices. [Pg.500]
