Optic nerve atrophy

Optic nerve atrophy Patients with early Leber disease (hereditary optic nerve atrophy) treated with cyanocobalamin suffer severe and swift optic atrophy. [Pg.71]

Contraindications Folic acid deficiency anemia, hereditary optic nerve atrophy, history of allergy to cobalamins... [Pg.311]

Liver-Yang ascending Hypertension, menopausal complaints, tinnitus, deafness, glaucoma, asthenopia, optic nerve atrophy, primary cataract and conjunctivitis. [Pg.314]

Stypandra imbricata R. Br. (Liliaceae), is known in Western Australia as blind grass , since ingestion of the plant by goats and sheep often causes initial weakness, incoordination, and paralysis of hind limb, which may progress to prostration and death. Blindness, due to irreversible retinal degeneration and optic nerve atrophy, could persist following recovery from acute intoxication [297-300]. [Pg.55]

The use of periocular steroids has several limitations and complications. The injections are usually somewhat uncomfortable, and thus patients prefer to avoid them. Adverse ocular effects have included retinal detachment, optic nerve atrophy, and preretinal membrane formation. Intraocular pressure (lOP) can rise, particularly because the drug may remain in the eye for several days to weeks. Some of the observed effects may result from the vehicle rather than from the steroid itself. [Pg.224]

Bi2 Meat, dairy, eggs, seafood Toxic optic neuropathy Optic nerve atrophy (in Leber s disease)... [Pg.297]

A 49-year-old woman had a tonic-clonic seizure about 15 minutes after a peribulbar block for left trabeculectomy (319). She recovered and surgery continued uneventfully. However, she had severe permanent visual loss in that eye, and an MRI scan at 4 weeks showed swelling of the left optic nerve. The authors suggested that some prilocaine had been injected into the nerve sheath, causing the convulsions, local optic nerve swelling, and subsequent optic nerve atrophy. [Pg.2144]

In animal study it was reported that 89% of the mice fed PPD developed lenticular changes indicating that PPD has cataractogenous effects, which are related to the duration, amount and individual sensitivity [49]. It was concluded that PPD is potentially toxic to human lens. Exophthalmia and permanent blindness due to optic nerve atrophy following PPD poisoning were reported [6]. Using a patch test to determine PPD phototoxicity, it was proved that PPD could cause a phototoxic reaction and photoallergy [50- 51]. [Pg.876]

Regardless of the entry route, the major symptoms of thallium poisoning are gastrointestinal stress, neurological problems, and hair loss. Pain develops, fingers become numb, motor weakness is noted, and lower limbs may become paralyzed. The eyes become inflamed and retrobulbar neuritis with some loss of central vision follows. Intraocular hemorrhage, formation of cataracts, and optic nerve atrophy can occur. [Pg.2557]

For various ophthalmological disorders, such as glaucoma, optic nerve atrophy, acute retrobulbar neuritis, cortical blindness, and central retinitis, add Flos Chrysanthemi Morifolii (Ju Hua), Fructus Lycii Chinensis (Gou Qi Zi), and Rhizoma Acori Graminei (Shi Chang Pu). [Pg.51]
