Operations operational programs

Recycling is not the total answer to the soUd waste problem. However, efficiently operated recycling programs can easily divert 35% or more of municipal soUd waste away from disposal. Curbside coUection systems offer the opportunity to coUect the greatest amount of recyclables in the most cost-efficient manner. It is imperative that communities and recyclers operate programs that are glass-friendly and which result in color-separated, contaminant-free material. 

If there are special requirements for communication at all technical data levels, the local controller must still be chosen from the same factory as the other technical operating programs in the central computer or PC. If not, there will be a considerable reduaion in the amount of data sent to and from the contn ller.

The resultant table is passed to the Formulator and Operator programs, and becomes the basis of their operations. 

The Engineer and Formulator programs were written in FORTRAN 77 on a Data General MV/8000 running under AOS/VS. The Operator program was written in FORTRAN V on a Data General Model 10/SP using RDOS. 

Since the robot is computer controlled, all motion must be programmed. In our case the Zymate motion is dictionary driven and operator programmed. It is classified as a "lead-through type robot in its programming O). Commands are operator named for inclusion in the system s dictionary. Since the commands are operator named, it is helpful to develop your own applicable language to avoid confusion at a later date. After positions are "taught and named, they are then archived on a floppy disk for further recall. 

Under these conditions, cooling water cycles of concentration are likely to be restricted to a maximum of only 2.5 to 4x without some innovative chemical treatment and operations programming. Sources of subsurface water with hardness and alkalinity contents much higher than those cited are likely to be unsuitable for cooling systems without some form of additional pretreatment, such as dealkalization, partial softening, use of RO, or blending with lower alkalinity/lower hardness supplies. 

We have seen in a number of situations that such perspectives allow short diagnostics (i.e., of around one week) to be conducted, which lead to clear targets and identification of the main improvement levers. This results in heavy front-end loading of operational programs and accelerates change.

As noted, the plant is expected to come on stream in mid-1979 after which a two-year operating program is scheduled. 

An instrument, which operated in the size range 30 to 1577 nm, was marketed as the Micromeretics Flow Sizer 5600 but it is no longer available. It was automated with operating programs on floppy discs and a data terminal was included. Calibration was effected with monosize lattices.
