Open-ended questions applications

Ask open-ended questions — Through responses to open-ended questions, candidates may actually volunteer more information about their ability and qualifications to fill the job than is reflected on the application form. It also allows the candidate to fully express himself or herself. [Pg.1033]

The sections that follow will explain the steps to be followed when using open-ended questions from the insttuctions given and the collection of responses, through pre-processing the data, to its analysis and interpretation. At each of these stages, the particular features to consider for their potential applications will be highlighted. [Pg.247]

Their inclusion as one of the principal elements of the task certainly implies blurring the limit between sensory science and other fields, such as consumer psychology and sociology, where qualitative methods such as open-ended questions originate, and offers much more flexible and spontaneous insights from consumers (Piqueras-Fiszman et al, in press Varela and Ares, 2012). This chapter will be more focused on these recent applications of open-ended questions, rather than on their traditional use. [Pg.249]

When it is important (if not essential) to collect people s opinions (or descriptions or associations) in their own words. What words do they use to describe their perception or experience with something For instance, when a company has launched a new product, it could be valuable to ask an open-ended question about it to see what words the target consumers use to describe it. In addition, in case these allow for general associations, the responses could have marketing applications too. Remember also that these terms are likely to be the most salient characteristics of the product as perceived by the consumer. [Pg.251]

In terms of its application, open-ended questions can be the main task in a study, or serve as a complement to other more structured sensory tasks. Are they more efficient than Descriptive Analysis In the former case, the nature and purpose of the questions and responses are simply not comparable to those obtained with Descriptive Analysis. In the latter case, the efficiency of the method would depend to a great extent on the task in which the questions are being included. [Pg.264]

Becue-Bertaut, M. and Lebart, L. (1998) Clustering of texts using semantic graphs, application to open-ended questions in surveys. In Data Science, Classification, and Related Methods (Eds. C. Hayashi, K. Yajima, H.-H. Bock, N. Ohsumi, Y. Tanaka and Y. Baba), 480-487. Springer-Verlag, Tokyo. [Pg.265]

The hrst part serves as an introduction to the subject title and contains chapters dealing with history, process variables, basic operations, chemical kinetic principles, and stoichometry and conversion variables. The second part of the book addresses traditional reactor analysis chapter topics include batch, CSTRs, and tubular flow reactors, plus a comparison of these classes of reactors. Part IH keys on reactor applications that include thermal elfects, interpretation of kinetic data, non-ideal reactors, and reactor design. The book concludes with other reactor topics chapter titles include catalysis, catalytic reactions, fluidized and fixed bed reactors, biochemical reactors, open-ended questions, and ABET-related topics. An Appendix is also included. [Pg.590]

This book consists of eight chapters. Chapters 2, 3 and 4 give methodological background and reviews. Chapters 5 to 8 carry the applications both in the field of analytical chemistry and pharmaceutical formulations. Since the field of which this book tries to give an overview is still under active research, this book is by no means a monograph with well established and tested methods. There are still a lot of questions and open ends. This book, however, does give some ideas how to tackle the problems of robustness. [Pg.2]

When a Topic Is Not Provided. When you are expected to develop your own topic, your writing assignment will be open-ended as the following examples are. Usually you will be given more time to complete these types of writing assignments, and you will often find them in English and composition classes. These types of questions are also common on school application forms. [Pg.15]

First, recommendations for fertilizer applications are inevitably gross simplifications. Their applicability to any particular field is questionable, since a map of soil classes is likely to overlook an enormous degree of microvariation between and within fields. The conditions under which fertilizers are applied, the "dosage, the soil structure, the crops for which they are intended, and the weather immediately prior and subsequent to their application can all greatly influence their uptake and effect. As Richards observes, the unavoidable variation by farm and field requires a more open-ended approach, with, in all probability, farmers doing much of the necessary experimentation for themselves. ... [Pg.284]

Biocomposites usefulness is no longer in question and more and more reports are focused on applicative aspects in the environment, packaging, agriculture devices, biomedical fields, etc. Moreover, because industrials were concerned about sustainable developments and a controlled end of life, production cost of biopolymers goes on decreasing which will allow strong developments of biopolymer-based materials. Therefore, these materials will be technically and financially competitive towards synthetic polymer-based composites. Then, this class of material opens a new dimension for plastic industry for a better sustainable development. [Pg.474]

In this never-ending story, in addition to questions about the elementary steps of the reaction and the importance of the real structure and subnitrides for the catalyst efficiency, as well as the wide-open question about new catalyst materials, there are also new challenges for new applications of ammonia. [Pg.836]
