Ticarcillin is, like carbenicillLn, an a-car-boxymethylpenicillin for parenteral use. Thanks to somewhat more favourable pharmacological properties ticarcillin may be used in a lower dose than carbenicillin. Both antibiotics have been compared in patients receiving daily either 3 x 5 g ticarcillin or 3x lOg carbenicillin intravenously as prophylactic treatment in oncological surgery. The incidence of thrombophlebitis was 28% and 23% respectively. Hypokalaemia (K in serum < 3 jUg/1) was also noted frequently, the incidence being 28% after ticarcillin and 43% after carbenicillin (40 ). [Pg.199]

Localized cancers are not often treated using a single modality. Rather, they are approached in a multidisciplinary manner. This approach has evolved over the past 15 yr to include medicine, surgery, radiation oncology, and gastroenterology. [Pg.253]

It is indicated in the treatment of a variety of painful inflammatory conditions, including osteoarthritis, oncology, postopera-tively, trauma, sports injuries, ear, nose and throat disorders, dental surgery, bursitis/ tendinitis, thrombophlebitis, upper airways inflammation and gynaecological disorders. In oncology the introduction and development of new products is quite intense. The number of patients available for treatment will be linked only to those entering therapy once those who have existing disease are treated. Many market models seen at investor conferences fail to take into account the fact that the available market for new biological therapies may be reduced because of advances in other areas such as radiotherapy or surgery. [Pg.5]

Important fields of application of Silics are surgery, stomatology, oncology, obstetrics, and gynecology (Table 9). As far as these fields are concerned, there are two directions of application of Silics, namely as an enterosorption agent and as an agent for local (applicative) use. [Pg.202]
