Older parameter

Preceding papers. h Preliminary values obtained through redetermination of parameters in crystals (cal-cite and sodium nitrate) by Mr. Norman Elliot. The values in parentheses are based on older parameter determinations. c L. Pauling and L. O. Brockway, Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci., 20, 336 (1934). The value 1.25 A. reported in crystals of oxalic acids and oxalates is probably less reliable. [Pg.204]

Readily available properties from simulations are densities. Older parameters of the chains, dihedral distributions, and the dynamics of dihedral transitions. [Pg.1645]

Of particular interest has been the study of the polymer configurations at the solid-liquid interface. Beginning with lattice theories, early models of polymer adsorption captured most of the features of adsorption such as the loop, train, and tail structures and the influence of the surface interaction parameter (see Refs. 57, 58, 62 for reviews of older theories). These lattice models have been expanded on in recent years using modem computational methods [63,64] and have allowed the calculation of equilibrium partitioning between a poly-... [Pg.399]

Miscellaneous. Electron beams can be used to decompose a gas such as silver chloride and simultaneously deposit silver metal. An older technique is the thermal decomposition of volatile and extremely toxic gases such as nickel carbonyl [13463-39-3] Ni(CO)4, to form dense deposits or dendritic coatings by modification of coating parameters. [Pg.137]

In the earliest days of on-line databases, all three indexing types coUapsed into the third. Using older manual tools, it was difficult to coordinate more than two or three concepts, but the computer made that easier. Each concept in a search can be represented by a string of synonyms or alternatives, and searching can be done for two such parameters or more. Thus, Boolean logic expressions can easily be constmcted as follows ... [Pg.59]

Reports have appeared in the Hterature of the use of human growth hormone in older men. It has been proposed that a reduction in growth hormone in old age is responsible for increased adipose tissue, loss of lean body mass, and thinning of skin. Current studies conducted on older men indicate the hormone reverses these effects. In the parameters studied the patients resembled those of persons 10 —20 years younger (70). [Pg.433]

The time for these four steps is typically about 15—20 min. It takes 1—2 h with the older single-reflection detector instmments. Because all reflections with weak, as well as moderate to strong intensities, are measured with the SMART system, the probabiUty of obtaining incorrect unit cell parameters is less than for conventional instmments. [Pg.378]

The most recendy developed model is called UNIQUAC (21). Comparisons of measured VLE and predicted values from the Van Laar, Wilson, NRTL, and UNIQUAC models, as well as an older model, are available (3,22). Thousands of comparisons have been made, and Reference 3, which covers the Dortmund Data Base, available for purchase and use with standard computers, should be consulted by anyone considering the measurement or prediction of VLE. The predictive VLE models can be accommodated to multicomponent systems through the use of certain combining rules. These rules require the determination of parameters for all possible binary pairs in the multicomponent mixture. It is possible to use more than one model in determining binary pair data for a given mixture (23). [Pg.158]

Determine the instrumentation, whieh exists, and their aetual loea-tion. Loeation of the instrumentation from the inlet or exit of the maehinery is important so that proper and effeetive eompensation may be provided for the various measured parameters. In some eases additional instrumentation will be needed. Experienee indieates that older plants require 10-20% more instrumentation depending upon the age of the plant. [Pg.652]

Large databases for the solubility parameter exist, most notably Barton s Handbook of Solubility Parameters and Other Cohesive Parameters [112], A small listing of values is given in Table 4. The units used are those of (J/cm ) / = (MPa) /, although the older literature uses units of (cal/cm ). The units are related by ... [Pg.51]

Finally, a number of studies146"149 have demonstrated that a variety of enzymes purified from tissues of older animals have a decreased specific activity when compared to the enzyme purified from younger animals. These proteins, however, appear to be identical as measured by a variety of physical and chemical parameters. It is possible that one of the differences is due to the accumulation of Met(O) residues in the proteins of the older animals. [Pg.869]

From the 1960s onward, alkaline zinc-manganese dioxide batteries started to be produced. They have appreciably better electrical performance parameters (see Section 19.4.3) but do not differ from Leclanche batteries in their operating features, are produced in identical sizes, and can be used interchangeably with them. Thus, a gradual changeover occurred and phaseout of the older system is now almost complete. [Pg.351]

Although most CF patients have shorter half-lives and larger volumes of distribution than non-CF patients, some patients exhibit decreased clearance. Possible causes include concomitant use of nephrotoxic medications, presence of diabetic nephropathy, history of transplantation (with immunosuppressant use and/or procedural hypoxic injury), and age-related decline in renal function in older adult patients. Additionally, CF patients are repeatedly exposed to multiple courses of IV aminoglycosides, which can result in decreased renal function. Evaluation of previous pharmacokinetic parameters and trends, along with incorporation of new health information, is key to providing appropriate dosage recommendations. [Pg.252]

In the last decades not only thousands of chemical descriptors but also many advanced, powerful modeling algorithms have been made available, The older QSAR models were linear equations with one or a few parameters. Then, other tools have been introduced, such as artificial neural network, fuzzy logic, and data mining algorithms, making possible non linear models and automatic generation of mathematical solutions. [Pg.83]

The position of the Sun in the diagram clearly indicates that it is over depleted in Li with respect to stars with similar age and even older (e.g., NGC 188). This result indicates that, as far as Li is concerned, the Sun is not typical, and, more in general, that Li depletion is not a tight function of mass and age. Depending on some additional parameter the non-standard mixing process becomes either ineffective at ages greater than 2 Gyr, or extremely fast. [Pg.174]

Fig. 30. SIMS plots of total deuterium density for silicon specimens with various boron concentrations, deuterated by plasma gases at 300°C. Full curves are the most recent measurements (Johnson, 1989), with deuteration time of one hour in all cases. Dashed curves are typical older data (Johnson, 1987), for which the plasma parameters may have slightly different the deuteration time for each of these was two hours. Each curve is labeled with its boron concentration in atoms/cm3. All sample surfaces were prepared in the same manner as those of Fig. 29. Fig. 30. Fig. 33. Comparisons of the pseudo-solubility data of Figs. 31 and 29 with model calculations assuming various values of parameter A DH, the binding energy of a positive donor D + and H into DH, AE2, the binding energy of 2H° into H2, and eA, the position of the hydrogen acceptor level relative to midgap. Plots (a) and (b) correspond respectively to the values 1.8 and 1.4 eV for A E2- In each of these, curves are shown for four combinations of the other parameters full curves, AEDH = 0.435 eV, eA = 0 dashed curves, AEDH = 0.835 eV, ea = 0 dotted curves AEDH = 0.435 eV, eA = 0.4eV dot-dash curves, A DH = 0.835 eV, eA = 0.4 eV. The chemical potential fi is constant on each curve and has been chosen to make the model curve pass through one of the experimental points of donor doping near 1017 cm-3, as shown. The solid circles are experimental points for arsenic obtained from Fig. 29 as described in the text. The other points are extrapolations of the phosphorus curves of Fig. 31 to zero depth, as described for Fig. 32, with open circles for the newer data and crosses for the older. Fig. 33. Further details concerning the older theories can be found in summaries 26 38). More recent work of Spears los> deals with the tricky problem of choosing a suitable set of repulsion parameters for the atoms involved. In their recent paper, Eliezer and Krindel 180> account more carefully for polarization effects than is usually done. The most elaborate approach up until now has been undertaken by Morf and Simon e<181>. They split the free energy of solvation into the following terms ... [Pg.51]
