In the earliest days of on-line databases, all three indexing types coUapsed into the third. Using older manual tools, it was difficult to coordinate more than two or three concepts, but the computer made that easier. Each concept in a search can be represented by a string of synonyms or alternatives, and searching can be done for two such parameters or more. Notice that, for reasons of symmetry, in the hexagonal system a somewhat redundant index type may be used for plane identification. Refractive-index-type sensors present poor specificity in their response and instabilities due to temperature or pressure variations and on the other hand, interferometric sensors are complex, but more sensitive than other integrated chemo-optical evanescent-field-based sensors.

Heat resistance can be divided into short term such as soldering temperature resistance and long term such as maximum continuous usage temperature, or so called UL (Underwriters Laboratory) thermal index. UV detection is used in most chiral analysis by HPLC and other liquid chromatographic modalities. There are several differences between the major stretch blow molding machines in the industry. Cincinnati Milacron offered an indexing type machine. It had the advantages as being very rugged and versatile. It was also a relatively simple machine to operate and provided the user a machine that produced the lowest cost bottle per machine cost. TTie ovens could be moved to allow for equilibration time to be adjusted for each different style preform.
