Oil Ointment

The aluminum/magnesium hydroxide stearate is dispersed in the castor oil. 

The hydrogenated castor oil is added while mixing with a high-shear mixer. 

The remaining ingredients are then blended to the semisolid until homogeneous mixing appears.

Nappy rash is effectively managed by the application of a barrier preparation, such as zinc and castor oil ointment. Antihistamine creams such as mepyramine and antipruritic creams such as Eurax cream, containing crotamiton, are of no use. 

Lipophilic ointment (oil ointment) consists of a lipophilic base (paraffin oil, petroleum jelly, wool fat [lanolin]) and may contain up to 10 % powder materials, such as zinc oxide, titanium oxide, starch, or a mixture of these. Emulsifying ointments are made of paraffins and an emulsifying wax, and are miscible with water. 

Lipophilic (oily) cream is an emulsion of water in oil, easier to spread than oil paste or oil ointments. 

Petrolatum-mineral oil ointment is retained longer on the eye than other vehicles. The large molecules of the petrolatum-mineral oil-base ointment are not easily removed by blinking, and a component of the comeal tear film is a non-polar oil. Ointments are oil bases and non-polar, which is why they are readily absorbed by the pre-corneal and conjunctival tear films. To maintain dmg contact with the eye, patching is recommended (1).

MCustard Oil Ointment. Crude mustard-seed oil, 10 fluid ounces ethereal oil of mustard. 30 drops water of ammonia. 4 fluid ounces, or a sumcient quantity to form into a soap. Mix and bottle iu broad-monthed phials containing about 2 ounces. 

Cod.-Ia.ver Oil Ointment. Melt together I part white wax, 1 part spermaceti, and 7 parid palo cod-liver oil. Used for ophthalmia, scrofulous sores, rheumatism, stiff joints, and some skin diseases, including ringworm. Scented with oil of nutmeg and balsam of Peru it forms an excellent pomade for strengthening and restoring the hair. 

Bromine burns can be particularly serious. These burns should first be washed with soap and warm water and then thoroughly soaked with 0.6 M sodium thiosulfate solution for three hours. Apply cod liver oil ointment and a dressing see a physician.
