Oiganic matrix

Pigmentsf Aftertreatments. The surfaces of pigment particles can have different properties and composition than the particle centers. This disparity can be caused by the absorption of ions during wet milling, eg, the —OH groups, on the surface. In some cases, surfaces are modified intentionally to improve the pigments application properties, interaction with the oiganic matrix, and weather resistance. [Pg.5]

In some cases, a pigment s thermal and chemical resistance can be improved by the encapsulation of the pigment particles by an insoluble, colodess layer of metal oxide or oxide—hydroxide, eg, silica, Si02. The function of such a shell is to prevent direct contact and reaction between the pigment surface and the oiganic matrix in which the pigment is dispersed (11). [Pg.6]

The osteon is one of the fundamental funetional unit of human eortieal bone. Eaeh osteon consists of concentric lamellae, approximately 3 to 7 pm thick, arranged around a central Haversian canal. At the nanoscale level, these lamellae ate made of mineral platelets (hydroxyapatite) with given size and orientation distributions, embedded in an oiganic matrix of collagen fibers. [Pg.190]

Equation 57 is typically observed for partitioning processes, for example, for the (ab)sorption of nonpolar oiganic substances in a solid matrix containing organic (humus-like) material. Equation 57 corresponds also to the initial linear portion of a Langmuir isotherm or to a Freundlich equation S = KpC, where b = 1. Note that colloid-facilitated transport is excluded in this treatment. [Pg.595]

These fibrous minerals share several properties which qualify them as asbestiform fibers (/) they are found in large clusters which can be easily separated from the host matrix or cleaved into thinner fibers (1) (2) the fibers exhibit high tensile strengths (1) (3) they show high length diameter ratios, from a minimum of 20 up to >1000 (1) (4) they are sufficiendy flexible to be spun and (5) macroscopically, they resemble oiganic fibers such as cellulose (2). [Pg.344]

One of the most extensively studied kDNA netwoiks is that of the spedes Orithidiajmciculata. The kDNA network (approximately 10 by 15 pm in dimensions ) is condensed in the mitochondrial matrix into a disk-like structure of about 1 by 0.35 pm. Several histone-like proteins are involved in the structural oiganization of the condensed network. The kinetoplast... [Pg.10]

The book s simple and illustrative presentation of eoneepts and analyses inelude both basic physical-chemical quantum principles and observabihty at each level of matter s oiganization as well as advanced (more abstract, thus most necessary) formalisms of density matrix, path integrals, Hartree-Fock (as self-consistent quantum methods), original Heisenberg uncertainty by a sub-quantum extension (with more quantum fluctuation insight for the free evolution modeling), eventually leading to a novel undulatory/corpuscular characterization of the Si-based nano/ mesosystems. [Pg.638]

Some companies are now using risk-based inspections (RBI), especially for the costly preparation efforts for internal inspections. RBI is a method that is gaining credibility and popularity. Oiganizations calculate a proposed inspection frequency by considering the consequences of failure and the likelihood of failure based upon specific factors, which affect internal corrosion rates. Practitioners of RBI look at the effects of operating temperature and pressure, metalluigy, and the aggressive (or passive) nature of the process, possible contaminants, and recent inspection results in this semi-quantitative assessment. The method employs a risk matrix. [Pg.319]

Assuming that the nanocomposites obtained can be considered as oscillators transferring their oscillations onto the medium molecules, we can determine to what extent the IR spectrum of liquid medium will change. It is proposed to consider the obtaining of metal/carbon nanocomposites in nanoreactors of polymeric matrixes as self-oiganization process similar to the formation of ordered phases. [Pg.37]

The above results clearly show that compatibility and optimum interactions between polymer matrix, oiganic modifiers (if any) and the silicate layer surface are cra-cial to the formation of intercalated or exfoliated nanocomposite stracture. Starch and PVOH are more compatible with Na-MMT and LRD than C30B and C lOA because of their hydrophihcity. On the other hand, with increase of clay content, the clay layers are harder to be dispersed due to the weak intermolecular forces. In such case, more mechanical energy input instead of molecular interactions may be needed to peel off the silicate plates to produce exfoliated nanocomposite structure. [Pg.298]

A next-future application of MOFs is predicted for MOF-oiganic polymer-based mixed matrix membranes in hollow fiber or spiral wound geometry. Established membrane production technologies such as hollow fiber spinning or foil casting can be used for the preparation of mixed matrix membranes. Further, MOFs match much better with organic polymers than zeolites, for example, even if the latter have been hydrophobized, such as by silylation. [Pg.304]
