The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) (1997) has recommended 983 ing/ni as the threshold limit value for occupational exposures to isopropanol in workplace air. Similar values have been used as standards or guidelines in many countries, except in Denmark (490 mg/m ) and Sweden (350 mg/m ) (International Labour Office, 1991). [Pg.1028]

Mean PCB concentrations of 5.1, 3.2, and 0.76 mg/kg of extractable fat were determined in samples of abdominal fat, liver, and brain, respectively, obtained from autopsies performed in Denmark (Kraul and Karlog 1976). None of the 82 subjects were occupationally exposed to PCBs. The PCB values in liver could be best correlated with those in adipose tissue. A more recent study described 14 different PCB isomers in tissues and organs obtained at autopsy of three individuals in North America (Schecter et al. [Pg.342]

Contact dermatitis can occur from exposure to cement and has been considered an occupational hazard for construction workers (Turk and Rietschel 1993 Roto et al. 1996 Zachariae et al. 1996). The problem develops because chromium(VI)-con-taining residues from blast furnaces are incorporated into cement. Some countries add ferrous sulfate to cement to reduce the amount of soluble hexavalent chromate in the product (Turk and Rietschel 1993 Roto etal. 1996 Zachariae etal. 1996). In the UK, chromium and chromates accounted for 8.1% of the allergic contact dermatitis cases (Meyer et al. 2000). In Finland, chromium causes 5.6% of ACD, with tanners, cast concrete workers, leader goods workers, and metal plating/coating workers being at greatest risk (Kanerva et al. 2000). In Denmark, the chromium(VI) content of 35% of... [Pg.722]

Brown et al. (1994) listed 80 VOCs for which quantitative data were available for established dwelhngs (Table 3.1-5) the major 29 of these compounds (from all types of established buildings) are presented in Table 3.1-1. Similar VOCs have been found in dwelling surveys from Canada (Otson et al., 1994), England (Brown and Crump, 1996), Denmark (Harving et al., 1992), United States (Lindstrom et al., 1995), Japan (Park et al., 1996), China (Li et al., 1996) and Australia (Brown et al., 1996). Established office surveys have also found similar VOCs to those shown in Table 3.1-5, although with some extra compounds related to building materials and occupant activities ... [Pg.178]

The Counsellor then said that he knew that B had recently been to America, and B said that he had received from the journey many encouraging expressions of the wish for international cultural co-operation and that he hoped soon to come to Russia also. The Counsellor next asked what information B had received about the work of American scientists during the war, and B answered that the American scientists, just like the Russian and the British, had surely made very large contributions to the war effort which would no doubt be of great importance for an appreciation of science everywhere after the war. B thereafter told a little about the situation in Denmark during the occupation. [Pg.529]
