Occupational classification

Occupancy classifications fall into the following categories ... [Pg.129]

The first edition of Dow s Fire and Explosion Index (F EI) Guide, published in 1964, was based on the Factory Mutual Chemical Occupation Classification Guide. As experience has been accumulated and evaluated, the Dow guide has gone through several revised and expanded editions. The current sixth edition was published in May 1987. It draws on NFPA 325M and 49. [Pg.285]

Three primary occupancy classifications are used in fire risk assessment residential, institutional and commercial. [Pg.105]

Every laboratory facility should be equipped with at least a manually activated alarm system, although an automatic system is preferable since it wiU continue to function when the facility is unoccupied. Automatic alarms are especially useful in academic institutions since there are break periods when the population of the campus is very low. In many cases, depending upon local code requirements and the occupancy classification, an automatic fire alarm system may be required rather than optional. Every component of a system should be approved by Underwriters Laboratories, the Factory Mutual System, or other nationally recognized accrediting and testing organizations. [Pg.190]

The 1-hour separation required between the different occupancy classifications of Zone 2 and the Zone 2A canyon cannot be achieved due to unsealed and non-rated penetrations in the hot cell canyon walls. Although the potential of a fire occum ng in the Zone 2A canyon is very small, a manual foam suppression system has been provided for fires in the canyon to provide defense in depth. The pre-piped nozzles allow the application of a fixed amount of foam into the hot cell canyon from Zone 2, without exposing operators or emergency responders to high radiation levels, if a fire were to occur. [Pg.303]

Maybe not you personally, but your field of work as an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist and Technician was adopted by the public health workforce. Your branch of the family tree is located at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) System under number 29-9010. Occupational activities under this number include Review, evaluate, and analyze... [Pg.20]

With the above information a basis for premium review and negotiation can begin. In jurisdictions which don t have a mandated single insurer, insnrance brokers can also be engaged to act on behalf of an organization with respect to premium negoti-atioa It is important to ensiue that employees have been placed in the correct occupational classifications. [Pg.503]

The first decision which must be made during the design process concerns the correct occupancy classification(s) for the proposed facility. The UBC and UFC are used to help the owner and designer define the category of occupancy to be used as a basis for the design, construction and operation of a facility. [Pg.432]

When the facility uses or stores hazardous chemicals or gases in sufficient quantity, it must be considered a Hazardous, Group H occupancy. A summary of the quantity, location and type of hazardous materials located within a given control area is required in order to make the correct occupancy classifications. If a review of the hazardous production material (HPM) inventory indicates quantities above the exempt amounts set in UBC Tables 3-D or 3-E (pgs. 1-62 to 1-64) for a control area, an H occupancy classification is mandated. Refer to Tables 1 and 2 which have been taken from the 1994 UBC. [Pg.432]

This is not meant to suggest that changes in occupational classification have no effects on studies designed to ask different questions of the data. For an example of how undetected biases inherent in early Census categories have vitiated recent studies of social mobility in the American occupational structure, see II, Conk, 1978b. [Pg.210]

The time series on the aggregate number of chemists in the labor force can be obtained from the occupational breakdowns of the U.S. Census of Population. Some of the problems caused by changing occupational classifications over the last hundred years are discussed in Sections A.l and A.2 these issues are analyzed (and variant measures proposed) in lA, Edwards, 1943, and lA, Kaplan and Casey, 1958. An alternate source for estimates of the population of employed chemists and chemical engineers is the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Bulletin 1781 of the BLS, Employment of Scientists and Engineers, 1950-70 (lA, 1973), was particularly helpful. See also Bureau of Labor t2itistie, Manpower Resources in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Bulletin 1132 (lA, 1953). Readers particularly interested in the employment of chemists in academe, government, or industry are referred to the detailed discussion in Chapter 5. [Pg.501]
