Noyes process

Because of its high melt viscosity it has no useful melt flow index. Conventional screw plasticizing extrusion and injection molding can noy process them. The processing methods used are compression molding, ram extrusion, ram injection, and warm forming of extruded slugs from powdered plastic. In turn many components are machined from semifinished products. [Pg.52]

One of the possibilities is to study experimentally the coupled system as a whole, at a time when all the reactions concerned are taking place. On the basis of the data obtained it is possible to solve the system of differential equations (1) simultaneously and to determine numerical values of all the parameters unknown (constants). This approach can be refined in that the equations for the stoichiometrically simple reactions can be specified in view of the presumed mechanism and the elementary steps so that one obtains a very complex set of different reaction paths with many unidentifiable intermediates. A number of procedures have been suggested to solve such complicated systems. Some of them start from the assumption of steady-state rates of the individual steps and they were worked out also for stoichiometrically not simple reactions [see, e.g. (8, 9, 5a)]. A concise treatment of the properties of the systems of consecutive processes has been written by Noyes (10). The simplification of the treatment of some complex systems can be achieved by using isotopically labeled compounds (8, 11, 12, 12a, 12b). Even very complicated systems which involve non-... [Pg.3]

This dissolution process can be considered to be diffusion-layer controlled. This is best explained by considering the rate of diffusion from the solid surface to the bulk solution through an unstirred liquid film as the rate-determining step. This dissolution process at steady state is described by the Noyes-Whitney equation ... [Pg.508]

Mechanisms of dissolution kinetics of crystals have been intensively studied in the pharmaceutical domain, because the rate of dissolution affects the bioavailability of drug crystals. Many efforts have been made to describe the crystal dissolution behavior. A variety of empirical or semi-empirical models have been used to describe drug dissolution or release from formulations [1-6]. Noyes and Whitney published the first quantitative study of the dissolution process in 1897 [7]. They found that the dissolution process is diffusion controlled and involves no chemical reaction. The Noyes-Whitney equation simply states that the dissolution rate is directly proportional to the difference between the solubility and the solution concentration ... [Pg.192]
