Theoretical implications

The chemistry of heterocyclic compounds is one of the most complex branches of organic chemistry. It is equally interesting for its theoretical implications, for the diversity of its synthetic procedures, and for the physiological and industrial significance of heterocyclic compounds. [Pg.597]

The unique characteristic of the effective double layer is that it is directly accessible to gaseous reactants. Thus electrochemical promotion is catalysis in the presence of a controllable (via current and potential) electrochemical double layer. The theoretical implications and practical opportunities are obvious and numerous. [Pg.273]

Salient theoretical features of the kinetics of geminate electron-ion recombination have been presented in Sect. 7.5. Here we will discuss some experimental results and their theoretical implications. [Pg.295]

In addition to its practical importance, Tx has important theoretical implications for the understanding of the molecular origin of polymer mechanical behavior (3,4,6,35,42-45) and plays a central role in establishing the framework, mentioned above, which relates the properties of different polymers to each other (3 46.47). [Pg.16]

Fully developed fire studies have been performed over a range of fuel loadings and ventilation conditions, but primarily at scales smaller than for normal rooms. Also the fuels have been idealized as wood cribs or liquid or plastic pool fires. The results have not been fully generalized. The strength of the dimensionless theoretical implication of Equation (11.38) suggests that, for a given fuel, the fully developed, ventilation-limited fire should have dependences as... [Pg.361]

It is interesting to note that some difluorohydrocarbons of the type F[CH2]nF are moderately toxic.1 The compounds so far examined have n — 4, 5 and 18, and so alternation is not apparent, but a larger selection should be examined before any attempt is made to discuss the theoretical implication. What may be said is that mobility of the fluorine atom is probably operative here. [Pg.183]

The design, syntheses, and study of non-natural molecules with theoretical implications have been intellectually challenging. I cannot agree more with Phil Eaton of the University of Chicago, who remarked in the preface for a Symposium-in-Print devoted to non-natural products, that a non-natural product is the invention... [Pg.141]

Though the mechanical philosophy became widely received, there was no successful effort to create a mechanical chemistry. But mechanical language explanations for certain kinds of chemical observations became increasingly common. In short, toward the end of the seventeenth century and early in the eighteenth, the chemical literature became increasingly descriptive in its style and eclectic in its explanations. The vocabulary utilized terms from both the older traditions and the new mechanical philosophy, but the theoretical implications associated with either seem much... [Pg.56]

The quantity of material adsorbed will depend on its concentration, and the relation is shown in Figure 51. As the concentration is increased, more material is adsorbed, but as the surface of the adsorbent becomes more and more covered with molecules, the amount adsorbed will diminish. The theoretical implications of this adsorption curve will not be discussed further. As the temperature... [Pg.252]

Five basic principles are accepted in biomineralization carrying primarily theoretical implications. [Pg.94]

In Sect. 2.4, the theoretical implications of competitive scavenging of one or other ion of an ion-pair by another species (ion scavenger) were discussed. Much of the theoretical and experimental material has been reviewed excellently by Hummel [69]. He did much to develop this area, along with Schuler, Mozumder and co-workers. The reader is urged to consult this review and the article by Crumb and Baird [389] for most of the references to experimental work as well as the detailed comments therein. [Pg.184]

The theoretical implications of finite-gap stagnation were first recognized by Chapman and Bauer [61] and later extended to combustion environments [214,359]. Evans and coworkers further extended the analysis to support chemical vapor deposition reactors [70, 71,118],... [Pg.268]

The data of this work are analyzed in the light of published results before discussing their theoretical implications. [Pg.98]

Recent advances in experimental techniques, particularly photoionization methods, have made it relatively easy to prepare reactant ions in well-defined states of internal excitation (electronic, vibrational, and even rotational). This has made possible extensive studies of the effects of internal energy on the cross sections of ion-neutral interactions, which have contributed significantly to our understanding of the general areas of reaction kinetics and dynamics. Other important theoretical implications derive from investigations of the role of internally excited states in ion-neutral processes, such as the effect of electronically excited states in nonadiabatic transitions between two potential-energy surfaces for the simplest ion-molecule interaction, H+(H2,H)H2+, which has been discussed by Preston and Tully.2 This role has no counterpart in analogous neutral-neutral interactions. [Pg.83]

Structural Significance. Where possible, the types of ions causing the empirical formula shown are postulated, and the abundant compound types found are tabulated separately. The justifications for many such structural classifications are due to careful correlations of spectra that have been published by a variety of authors. No attempt has been made to give proper creditor reference to this vital previous work. Such an attempt would seriously complicate the table, and it was also impossible to give proper credit in every case. The author found most helpful a number of unpublished correlations which had been prepared informally by coworkers in the Dow laboratories. In addition, a sizable number of interesting structure-spectral relations were found which are reported for the first time in this table. The theoretical implications of these new correlations will be discussed in separate publications. [Pg.3]

The theoretical and mechanistic explanations of compensation behavior mentioned above contain common features. The factors to which references are made most frequently in this context are surface heterogeneity, in one form or another, and the occurrence of two or more concurrent reactions. The theoretical implications of these interpretations and the application of such models to particular reaction systems has been discussed fairly fully in the literature. The kinetic consequence of the alternative general model, that there are variations in the temperature dependence of reactant availability (reactant surface concentrations, mobilities, and active areas Section 5) has, however, been much less thoroughly explored. [Pg.256]
