Non-Dominated Alternatives

An alternative that is not dominated by any other feasible alternatives is called non-dominated, Pareto optimal, or an efficient alternative. For a non-dominated alternative, an increase in the value of any one criterion is possible only with a decrease in the value of at least one other criterion. [Pg.17]

Multiple Criteria Decision Making in Supply Chain Management [Pg.18]

In the ISO/IEC Guide 51 1999, it is clear that some tolerance criteria has to be defined, as inALARP, however it does not suggest any procedure to deal with the simation where the limits has already been satisfied, even how to choose between non dominated alternatives considering multiple risk dimensions. [Pg.1012]

In order to evaluate comparable alternatives, the first step has consisted on determining a SC which maximizes NPV, which is used to fix a total production rate. From the supplied data, it is found that the production rate should be of 703 ton of MA. Then, since two objective functions have to be optimized, namely, NPV and environmental impact, the procedure described in Appendix A.5 is followed to ensure that non-dominated solutions are computed. [Pg.146]

Use of renewable feedstocks is most likely where they can compete economically with petrochemically derived materials. This already happens in many areas, and it is sometimes forgotten that even in a world that seems to be dominated by chemicals and materials from fossil carbon and other non-renewable sources, industry already uses annually 19.8 MT of vegetable oils, 22.5 MT starch, 28.4 MT of plant fibres and 42.5 MT of wood pulp. These all compete on price and performance with synthetic alternatives. [Pg.67]

At temperatures of the order 700 - 900 K the surface point defects play the dominant role in controlling the various eledrophysical parameters of adsorbent on the content of ambient medium [32]. As it has been mentioned in section 1.6, these defects are being formed in the temperature domain in which the respective concentration of volume defects is very small. In fact, cooling an adsorbent down to room temperature results violation of uniform distribution due to redistribution of defects. The availability of non-homogeneous defect distribution led to creation of a new model of depleted surface layer based on the phenomenon of oxidation of surface defects [182] which is an alternative to existing model of the Shottky barrier [183]. [Pg.85]

Ca2+ is pumped into the SR stores by specific ATPases, the SERCA pumps. Three SERCA genes have been identified and several alternatively spliced gene products. In muscles SERCA1 is predominantly expressed in fast-twitch striated muscles and SERCA 2 isoforms are dominant in slow twitch, heart and smooth muscles, with SERCA2a in the former two, and SERCA2b predominant in smooth muscle and non-muscle cells. SERCA3 has a widespread distribution. [Pg.245]

The epoxide molecule is very active and can bind chemically to certain liver cell molecules and cause damage and even death to the cell (Path A). But an alternative reaction path (Path B) can also operate. If the amount of bromo benzene that enters the cell is low enough, Path B (which actually creates several metabolites) dominates and little or no cell damage occurs because the metabolic products are relatively non-toxic and are readily excreted from the body. But as soon as the capacity of the cell to detoxify is overcome because of excessive concentrations of bromobenzene, the dangerous Path A begins to operate and cell damage ensues. [Pg.47]

Alternative fuels are substitute fuel sources to petroleum. These fuels are important because they replace petroleum fuels however, some still include a small amount of petroleum in the mixture. By replacing petroleum-based fuels, we will no longer need to rely on fossil fuel, which is a non-renewable resource. There are many benefits in using alternative fuels as well. The population of automobiles is currently dominated by vehicles burning gasoline, where the main alternative fuels for these types of vehicles are alcohol, liquefied petroleum gas, compressed natural gas, hydrogen and electricity. [Pg.86]

Panic disorders are sudden attacks of severe anxiety accompanied or even dominated by physical symptoms such as heart palpitations, difficulty in breathing and a constrictive feeling in the chest, which can intensify the anxiety attack and put the subject m fear of his life. Panic attacks often arise spontaneously without detectable cause or are associated with particular situations such as being in a crowd, in a small, enclosed space or on an exposed street. Both syndromes can be treated successfully with benzodiazepines. Alternatives to tranquillizers include certain antidepressants, e.g. SSRIs, and non-drug therapeutic procedures (see below). [Pg.292]
