NIH/3T3 mouse fibroblasts

Much less is known about the cytotoxic and antiproliferative effects of the 20(S)-PPT family of ginsenosides. Ginsenoside Rhi has been reported to inhibit proliferation of the NIH 3T3 mouse fibroblast cell line but did... [Pg.66]

Stimulated translocation of the GLUT-4 glucose transporter (which is regulated by insulin) to the plasma membrane was demonstrated in rat adipocytes, and increased glucose transporter expression in the presence of vanadate was shown in vitro in NIH 3T3 mouse fibroblasts and in vivo in rat skeletal muscle. Vanadate increased sensitivity to insulin in activating glucose transport in normal and insulin-resistant rat adipocytes (but not human adipocytes ), via enhanced insulin binding. [Pg.96]

The rat S-HTja and 5-HT2C receptors were cloned and stably expressed in NIH 3T3 mouse fibroblasts. Binding and competition experiments were performed on membranes prepared from cell cultures using [ I]LSD as radioligand. Inhibition of 5-HT stimulated phosphoinositide hydrolysis was used to determine the antagonistic potencies of the compounds. The agonistic properties of the compounds and their relative efficacies (relative to serotonin that is) were assessed... [Pg.191]

NIH 3T3 mouse fibroblast cells were cultured on the xerogels in a mixture of Dulbecco s Modified Eagle s Medium (DMEM), 10% Bovine Calf Serum (BCS) and 1% penicillin / streptomycin, and their number measured using [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium (MTS), a compound that is... [Pg.2952]

In addition to genotoxicify studies with chlorophenols themselves, the corresponding activity of some of their metabolites has also been examined. The major metabolite of pentachlorophenol in mice and rats, tetrachloro-7 ora-hydroquinone, induced mutations in the hprt locus (but not the ouabain-resistance locus) of V79 Chinese hamster cells (Jansson Jansson, 1991), covalent damage (including 8-hydroxyguanine) in naked DNA in the presence of Cu(Il) (Naito et al., 1994), DNA strand breaks and accumulation of p53 in NIH 3T3 cells in vitro and transfonnation of mouse embryo fibroblasts in a two-stage model (Wang et al., 1997). The same metabolite, as well as tetrachloro-1,4-benzoquinone and tetrachloro-l,2-benzoquinone, caused DNA strand breaks in V79 Chinese hamster cells (Dahlhaus et al., 1996). [Pg.804]

Parker and coworkers also reported a series of cationic, neutral, and anionic europium and terbium complexes containing a tetraazatriphenylene moiety (Figure 13.23) and investigated the interaction of these Eu(III) complexes with various living cells [66, 73, 74]. Interestingly, cellular uptake of either of the cationic complexes Tb-52 and Tb-57 is favored over uptake of the related neutral complex (Tb-53) and anionic complexes (Tb-54 and Tb-56) [66]. The cationic lanthanide complexes are taken up by mouse skin fibroblast (NIH/3T3) cells and tend... [Pg.547]

In a third example of this methodology Mei et al. [65] produced a polymer containing the fibronectin-based peptide sequence GRGDS, a well-known cell adhesion sequence. This time, however, the polymerization of hydroxyethyl methacrylate was carried out on the sohd support in methyl ethyl ke-tone/propanol (7 3), resulting in a bio-hybrid with a polydispersity of 1.5. This peptide-polymer hybrid material was used as a support for the growth of mouse NIH-3T3 fibroblasts. It was shown that the cells adhered better to the polymer containing the peptide than to the unfunctionalized control polymer. This highhghts one of the many potential applications for protein-polymer hybrid materials. [Pg.39]
