Throughout the 1970s, appHcations of pattern recognition were found in the chemical sciences. Other methods of multivariate mathematics and statistics were borrowed or invented, and a new discipline called chemometrics arose. In 1974, the Chemometrics Society was formed, and the first Chemometrics newsletter came out in 1976 (12).

Additionally, the EPA pubhshes a newsletter entitled Pollution Prevention News that contains information including EPA news, technologies, program updates, and case studies. The EPA s Risk Reduction Engineering Laboratoiy and the Center for Environmental Research Information has pubhshed several guidance documents, developed in cooperation with the California Department of Health Services. The manuals supplement generic waste reduction information presented in the EPA s Waste Minimization Opportunity Assessment Manual (Ref. 9). 

The selection of the optimum type of particulate collection device (i.e., ESP or fabric filter oaghouse) is often not obvious without conducting a site-specific economic evaluation. This situation has been brought about by both the recent reductions in the allowable emissions levels and advancements with fabric filter and ESP technologies. Such technoeconomic evaluations can result in application and even site-specific differences in the final optimum choice (see Piecip New.sLetter, 220, June, 1994 and Fabric Filter Newsletter, 223, June, 1994). 

Describe old accidents, as well as recent ones, in safety bulletins and newsletters and discuss them at safety meetings. 

Written Memos. One of the most effective devices for improving maintenance communications is a newsletter or internal memo. The memo s success depends heavily on communicating formal tips and techniques in the mechanics language and using photos, sketches, and drawings generously to get the message across.

Keep in mind that there may well be other communications vehicles in active use within your company. For example, employees at operating facilities may rely on pre-shift meetings to get information summaries some divisions and facilities may have their own newsletters in addition to a companywide publication.
