Network Digital Computer

In this review the status of the relevant technology will be assessed with particular reference to formulation of problems and methods of solution. We shall, for the most part, be concerned with the technical literature of the last ten years. Since that period corresponds to the total eclipse of analog simulation which had been previously used, to some extent, in modeling pipeline networks (R3), we shall focus exclusively on digital computation methods. However, we shall not be content with a mere catalog of the different... [Pg.126]

The second more modern definition describes a Network comprised of more computers tied together with relatively few terminals on each computer. This second form of network became a reality with the mini computer revolution was spurred by acceptance Digitals PDP-8 and PDP-11 Mini computers in the 1960s and development of Digitals Network Architecture (DNA) in the 1970s. In order to clarify the distinction lets call the first form of "network" Data Communications and the second type a Digital Computer Network. [Pg.43]

A Digital Computer Network allows the users to place an impressive amount of computer power anywhere. In the research environment this allows the researcher to control the experiment, verify the data, extract and record at the experiment site. The dramatic reduction in the cost of data manipulation allows one to put many computers where ever they are needed. [Pg.47]

When the series of activities is diagrammed, it can be seen that many possible paths exist between the start and the end. The critical path is defined as that path involving the desired (usually shortest) duration for completion of the project. The mathematical concepts of both PERT and CPM are normally of sufficient complexity that a digital computer must be used for the solution. By the appropriate network computations, a final sequential procedure is developed which gives the critical path that must be followed from the start to the end to complete the job in the most efficient manner in a given duration of time. [Pg.408]

Currently, the coal mine safety monitoring system is a computer network-based digital surveillance system. Based on the computer networks and computer software, the technology of the coal mine... [Pg.359]

In such studies, the use of analog and digital computers pioneered by Britton Chance, plays a decisive role. Thus, networks of enzyme reactions in living cells, conasting of up to one hundred reactions, are now under active scrutiny. [Pg.236]

The Network. Digitization and the use of fiber optics had a tremendous impact on telecommunications and enabled the Internet and packet switching. The Internet is a vast worldwide network of computers, and packet switching is the method used for transmitting data. [Pg.1791]

The utility has conducted grid stability studies on the transmission S3 em using a digital computer program. The study results have shown that the ROK transmission network is adequate to maintain stable system operation. [Pg.152]

For more complex systons, however, the methods of multicompartmental analysis based on calculation of the transfer functions are necessary and the utilization of digital computers almost inevitable. Owing to the relations of pharmacokinetics with the theory of electrical networks the use of an analogue computer may also be of help in pharmacokinetic analysis and simulation of pharmacokinetic models. [Pg.218]

The exceptional computational abilities of the human brain have motivated the concept of an NN. The brain can perform certain types of computation, such as perception, pattern recognition, and motor control, much faster than existing digital computers (Haykin, 2009). The operation of the human brain is complex and nonlinear and involves massive parallel computation. Its computations are performed using structural constituents called neurons and the synaptic interconnections between them (that is, a neural network), The development of artificial neural networks is an admittedly approximate attempt to mimic this biological neural network, in order to achieve some of its computational advantages. [Pg.124]
