Network analysis 672 INDEX

Chemometric methods such as analysis of correlation coefficients, cluster analysis or neural network analysis are used, for example, in the classification of fragments of glass on the basis of their elemental composition or refractive index. Such methods allow the test material to be classified into the appropriate group of products on the basis of the measured parameter. [Pg.291]

A model for background traffic commonly adopted in statistical network analysis is a Poisson process with negative exponentially distributed arrival times (Hui, 1990). In order to ensure that delays given by a randomly generated individual are exponentially distributed, the delay field is an index in an array of values exponentially distributed from 0 to JIT seconds with an average value of 0.4" AT. We make no assumptions on the number of genes with a given tag. [Pg.242]

Hall, R. W., ed. 2003. Handbook of Transportation Science, 2nd ed. Boston, MA Kluwer Academic. Print and electronic. Focuses on the properties and characteristics common to all modes of transportation. Organized by snbject, chapters written by different authors address several broad topics discrete choice, travel demand, and vehicle operation flows and congestion, inclnding traffic control and system interactions spatial models used in network analysis and design and network assignment and routing and network models. Extensive use of tables, figures, and mathematical models references at the end of each chapter. The index and table of contents lack detail. [Pg.505]

Automatic diffraction analysis is available through the Diffraction Image Screening Tool and Library (DISTL) (Zhang et al., 2006). DISTL incorporates automatic indexing and identification of extraneous features such as ice rings, and provides an estimate of the resolution of the diffraction data. Neural networks have also been tested for the evaluation of crystal quality (Berntson et al., 2003). [Pg.180]

Methods Using 2D and ID Descriptors A good number of articles on aqueous solubility used a nonlinear method of data analysis, in particular, for methods developed with ID and 2D descriptors. Huuskonen [16] used E-state indexes [52,53] and several other topological indexes, with a total of 30 indexes, to develop his models. The predicted results for the 413 test set, SE = 0.71, calculated with MLRA were improved with a neural network, resulting in SE = 0.6. Tetko [17] noticed that E-state indexes represent a complete system of descriptors for molecules, and thus only these descriptors are sufficient to develop the aqueous solubility model. Indeed the model developed by the authors using exclusively E-state indexes provides similar results when compared to the model of Huuskonen [16]. Later on, the model was redeveloped using the Associative Neural Network (ASNN) method [54],... [Pg.249]

These results are then used for an extended and profound band assignment in the measured IR spectra. Thereby, the absorption index spectrum, as purely a property of the material, is preferred to reflectance or transmittance spectra, which are affected by the measuring conditions. As a result, procedures are developed that describe which IR bands can be used for peak analysis in order to monitor the curing reaction and the resulting network structure of the adhesive. [Pg.75]

Seven parameters of physicochemical properties, such as acid number, color, density, refractive index, moisture and volatility, saponification value and PV, were measured for quality and adnlter-ated soybean, as well as quality and rancid rapeseed oils. The chemometric methods were then applied for qualitative and quantitative discrimination and prediction of the oils by methods snch as exploratory principal component analysis (PCA), partial least squares (PLS), radial basis function-artificial neural networks (RBF-ANN), and multi-criteria decision making methods (MCDM), PROMETHEE and GAIA.260... [Pg.181]

The principal objective of an expression test is to determine the compression deliquoring characteristics of a cake. However, the nature of the test allows both filtration and compression characteristics to be determined when the starting mixture is a suspension (i.e. where the solids are not networked or they are interacting to a significant extent). Cake formation rate, specific resistance and solids volume fraction data can be determined for the filtration phase while analysis of a subsequent consolidation phase allows the calculation of parameters such as consolidation coefficient, consolidation index and ultimate solids concentration in the cake. Repeated use of the expression test over a range of constant pressures allows the evaluation of scale-up coefficients for filter sizing and simulation as described in Section 4.7. [Pg.178]

Model based control schemes such as model predictive control are highly related to the accuracy of the process model. A regional-knowledge index is proposed in this study and applied in the analysis of dynamic artificial neural network models in process control. To tackle the extrapolation problem and assure stability of the control system, we propose to run a neural adaptive controller in parallel with a model predictive control. A coordinator weights the outputs of these two controllers to make the final control decision. The proposed analysis method and the modified model predictive control architecture have been applied to a neutralization process and excellent control performance is observed in this highly nonlinear system. [Pg.533]
