Schreiber was active in educational matters during much of his life. Thus at various times he was on the School Board of his Wilmington district, the Board ot Directors of both Kalamazoo College and Wabash College, and the Michigan Commission for Educational Policies. Among other important posts, he served on the National Advisory Cancer Council and the Michigan Science Advisory Board.

In 1977 the National Materials Advisory Board (NMAB) of the National Academy of Sciences held a workshop on Acoustic Attenuation Materials Systems. The sponsoring agency was the Office of Naval Research, and the proceedings were published by the NMAB Conunittee on Structural Applications of Syntactic Foam (15).

Advisory Committee in 1978-1982, and was a member of the EPA Science Advisory Board Executive Committee during this period. He was chair of the National Research Council (NRC) Panel on Abatement of Particulate Emissions from Stationary Sources, and chair of the NRC Subcommittee on Photochemical Oxidants and Ozone. In addition, he spent time at other Universities for example, he was a Fulbright Scholar in 1960 and a Guggenheim Fellow in 1969, both at the University of Paris.

By the end of the third assault, the nation s food safety programs were clearly dysfunctional. A 2009 report prepared for the Trust for America s Health concluded that the food safety laws had not kept pace with scientific advancements. . . and changes in eonsumer eulture. The report echoed a November 2007 report prepared by a subeommittee of FDA s Science Advisory Board, which concluded that the nation s food supply was at risk, because the agency s ability to provide its basie food system inspeetion, enforcement and rule-making functions had been severely eroded. ... 

Ronald E. Hester is Professor of Chemistry in the University of York. He was for short periods a research fellow in Cambridge and an assistant professor at Cornell before being appointed to a lectureship in chemistry in York in 1965. He has been a full professor in York since 1983. His more than 300 publications are mainly in the area of vibrational spectroscopy, latterly focusing on time-resolved studies of photoreaction intermediates and on biomolecular systems in solution. He is active in environmental chemistry and is a founder member and former chairman of the Environment Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry and editor of Industry and the Environment in Perspective (RSC, 1983) and Understanding Our Environment (RSC, 1986). As a member of the Council of the UK Science and Engineering Research Council and several of its sub-committees, panels and boards, he has been heavily involved in national science policy and administration. He was, from 1991-93, a member of the UK Department of the Environment Advisory Committee on Hazardous Substances and is currently a member of the Publications and Information Board of the Royal Society of Chemistry. 

His broad public service included membership on the National Research Council s Committee on Chemical Industry, Chemical and Engineering News Editorial Advisory Board, the American Chemical Society s Committee on Science, and numerous other posts.
