Cancer Advisory Council

In the early 1960s, the Cancer Advisory Council of the California Department of Health studied laetrile, and a U.S. Senate subcommittee held hearings on laetrile in 1977. They both fotmd no value for laetrile in the treatment, alleviation, or cure of cancer. [Pg.304]

The Patient and Family Advisory Council at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute was created in the late 1990s with fifteen patients and family members who agreed to one-year terms renewable for up to three years. Several members participated and shared voting privileges. Members made the commitment to attend one meeting per month and to participate in the work of at least one subcommittee, for a total commitment of fewer than ten hours per month. [Pg.201]

Schreiber was active in educational matters during much of his life. Thus at various times he was on the School Board of his Wilmington district, the Board ot Directors of both Kalamazoo College and Wabash College, and the Michigan Commission for Educational Policies. In the 1930s. he was concerned with isolating nucleic acid from crystallized virus, and the reproduction of influenza virus. His doctorate was from the University of Illinois. In addition to his writing and speaking talents. Bill Baker s organizational abilities were in great demand. He served on many important government advisory boards and on several editorial boards. He was a member and, later, chairman of the Chemistry Panel of the Cancer Chemotherapy National Service Center of the National Cancer Institute in 1957-1960, and served as a member of the National Advisory Cancer Council in 1960-1962.
