Based on the patch method to assess worker or re-entry exposure, researchers have developed a database, which may be used to estimate exposure. Each patch from an individual in a study can be entered into the database separately, the residue data from patches from various body areas can be summed to yield a whole-body exposure number, and the data may be sorted as to worker tasks, equipment used, protective clothing worn, formulation types and other parameters. This is the basis for the currently used Pesticide Handlers Data Base (PHED), which was developed through a joint effort in the 1980s of CropLife America [formerly known as American Crop Protection Association (ACPA) and National Agricultural Chemicals Association (NACA)], the Environmental Protection Agency (ERA) and Health Canada. " The PHED is discussed in detail in another article in this book. [Pg.990]

Lea Hitchner of the National Agricultural Chemicals Association estimates an annual use of 200,000,000 in pesticides for the United States. In spite of the fact that the United States has been using more pesticides than any other country, the amount used has increased steadily. There is still a likelihood of expansion here. [Pg.5]

As organizers of the symposium and editors of this volume, we thank the contributors, whose expertise and generosity with their time will make this book a valuable reference for those working in the quality assurance field. We also wish to express our appreciation to the National Agricultural Chemicals Association for their interest and support and to the Division of Agrochemicals of the American Chemical Society for sponsoring the forum. [Pg.171]

The National Agricultural Chemical Association (NACA) established a committee to look into groundwater issues in 1983. That committee made recommendations similar to but not identical with the NAS procedures. The NACA committee recommended using the exisiting database within EPA. The database required for pesticides is very extensive (Table I) and provides considerable information upon which to develop a safety evaluation. [Pg.438]

A recent national public opinion survey (1) conducted by the National Agricultural Chemicals Association (NACA) revealed that 47% of all Americans believe that pesticides and farm fertilizers are a "major national problem " 55% include chemicals in drinking water in this category and 48% of all Americans also consider pollution of underground water as a "major national problem." These results reinforce the timeliness and importance of this three-day symposium. [Pg.475]
