Heat Treatment and Heat-Transfer Salts. Mixtures of sodium nitrite, sodium nitrate, and potassium nitrate are used to prepare molten salt baths and heat-transfer media. One of the most widely used eutectic mixtures uses 40% NaN02, 7% NaNO, and 53% KNO [7757-79-1] to give a... [Pg.200]

G.6 (a) A chemist prepares a solution by dissolving 4.690 g of NaNO, in enough water to make 500.0 mL of solution. What molar concentration of sodium nitrate should appear on the label (b) If the chemist mistakenly uses a 250.0-mL volumetric flask instead of the 500.0-mL flask in part (a), what molar concentration of sodium nitrate will the chemist actually prepare ... [Pg.84]

These tactoids are responsible for the particular geometrical structures formation in the blends, which leads to the formation of superstructures in the thickness of the blended film. The Young s modulus of the hybrid is increased by this kind of structural feature. After that, the preparation of intercalated PLA/ OMMT nano-composites with much improved mechanical and thermal properties was reported by Bandyopadhyay et al. (1999). [Pg.36]

In the matrix of PLA/ polycaprilactone (PCL)/OMMT nano-composites, the silicate layers of the organoclay were intercalated and randomly distributed (Zhenyang et at, 2007). The PLA/PCL blend significantly improved the tensile and other mechanical properties by addition of OMMT. Thermal stability of PLA/PCL blends was also explicitly improved when the OMMT content is less than 5%wt. Preparation of PLA/thermoplastic starch/MMT nano-composites have been investigated and the products have been characterized using X-Ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and tensile measurements. The results show improvement in the tensile and modulus, and reduction in fracture toughness (Arroyo et ah, 2010). [Pg.36]

PLA/PCL-OMMT nano-composites were prepared effectively using fatty amides as clay modifier. The nano-composites shows increasing mechanical properties and thermal stability (Hoidy et al, 2010c). New biopolymer nano-composites were prepared by treatment of epoxidized soybean oil and palm oil, respectively plasticized PLA modified MMT with fatty nitrogen compounds. The XRD and TEM results confirmed the production of nanocomposites. The novelty of these studies is use of fatty nitrogen compoimds which reduces the dependence on petroleum-based surfactants (Al-Mulla et al., 2011 Al-Mulla et ah, 2011 Al- Mulla et ah, 2010c). [Pg.36]

Plasticized PLA-based nano-composites were prepared and characterized with polyethylene glycol and MMT. It is reported that the organo-modified MMT-based composites show the possible competition between the polymer matrix and the plasticizer for the intercalation between the alumino-silicate layers (Paul et ah, 2002). [Pg.36]

Therefore, the samples are prepared by mixing fluorescent particles solution and silicon dioxide nano-particles solution as shown in Table 1. [Pg.27]

The Fe-N /Ti-N nano-multilayers were prepared by using the magnetron-sputtering technique [34]. Si (111) wafers are used as the substrate. The multilayers have a total thickness of about 500 nm with alternately Fe-N and Ti-N layers (shown in Fig. 38). The Fe-N layer was the outermost layer and the Ti-N layer was the iimermost layer. The thickness of each layer was strictly controlled by the sputtering time. Table 4 shows the thickness of each layer of the samples. Because the multilayer sample was supposed to be used as the magnetic write head, the thickness of the nonferromagnetic Ti-N layer was not changed. [Pg.205]

Second, the properties of micro/nano friction and wear/ scratch of several representative films are introduced. These films include from organic molecular films, solid films, to multilayers. The experiments were designed reasonably to understand the behaviors of micro/nano friction and wear of the films. The sample preparation methods were also de-... [Pg.208]

Kwon and coworkers prepared a series of nano- to microstmctured biodegradable PCLA porous fabrics by electrospinning. The nanoscale-fiber porous fabrics were electrospun with PCLA (1 1 mole ratio, approximately 0.3-1.2 mm in diameter) using l,l,l,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol as a solvent. [Pg.228]

The next two chapters concern nanostructured core particles. Chapter 13 provides examples of nano-fabrication of cored colloidal particles and hollow capsules. These systems and the synthetic methods used to prepare them are exceptionally adaptable for applications in physical and biological fields. Chapter 14, discusses reversed micelles from the theoretical viewpoint, as well as their use as nano-hosts for solvents and drugs and as carriers and reactors. [Pg.690]

Although random and irregular type GaN nanorods have been prepared by using transition metal nanoparticles, such as Ni, Co, and Fe as catalysts and carbon nanotubes as the template, the preparation of controllable regular array of strai t GaN nanorods has not yet been reported. Fabrication of well-ordered nano-structures with high density is very important for the application of nano-structures to practical devices. [Pg.737]
