Myrrh tincture

Fau Botot.—Tincture of cedar wood, one pint tincture of myrrh and rhatany, each four ounces j attar of peppermint, five drops. Mix. 

RHATTANY ROOT, Rathanhiae radix is the root of Krameria triandra Ruiz et Pav, family Krameriaceae, a semibush, which grows in the Andes (Peru). The root is mostly used as a tincture usually together with tincture of myrrh for the local treatment of inflammations in the oral cavity. 

Compound Tincture of Squills and Benzoin. This is also known as ft edeV t JSlixir. Take of squills, orris root, and elecampane, each 25 uracluns liquorice root, 2 drachms aniseed and myrrh, of each 4 scruples saffron, 18 grains dilute alcohol, 22 fluid ounces. Macerate for 15 days, express and filter. Dose, 40 to drops, in catarrh asthma, d c. 

Tincture of Myrrh. Take 3 troy ounces myrrh in moderately coarse powder press it nnHl(fratoiy into a conical percolator, and displju e with alcohol 2 pints oi tincture. (U, S. Ph.)... 

Spackman s Lotion for Inflamed Parta. Mix 1 drachm tincture of myrrh 3 drachms tincture of camphor 1 ounce rectified spirits of wine 1 drachm Goulard s extract 1 ounce solution of sulphate of morphia 2 ounces tincture of arnica, and 4 ounces water. 

Slippex y lm Poultice. Take a sufficient quantity of pulverized slippery elm bark stir it in hot or warm milk and water, to the consistence of a poultice. This is a most efficacious poultice is of almost universal application, and removes inflammation sooner than any other. Dennis Patent Anti-spasznod-ic Tincture, Take 1 ounce each tincture of scuUcap, valerian, myrrh, and cap.sicura 2 ounces tincture of lobelia a httle soda and sufficient water. 

Turlington s Balsam is much like the compound tincture of benzoin of the Pharmacopceia of the U. S., though it is somewhat more complicated. To make it, take benzoin, 12 ounces liquid storax, 4 ounces balsam of Peru, 2 ounces myrrh and aloes, each 1 ounce balsam of tolu and extract of liquorice, each 4 ounces angelica root, t ounce alcohol, 8 pints. Digest for 10 days, and strain. 

Auer s Hippie Wash, Tako 4 drachm powdered gmn-arabic, 10 grains borate of soda, and 1 drachm tincture of myrrh. 

Detergents. Deterge means to cleanse. Detergents remove unwholesome matters adhering to and obstructing the Vessels usually applied to f[Pg.318]

Bellas Gargle for Syphilitic Sore Throat. Mix together 2 grains corrosive sublimate 1 ounce rectided spirits of wine 3 ounces tincture of Peravion bark, and 1 ounce each honey of roses and tincture of myrrh. 

Diarrhea Tincture. Compound tincture of myrrh, 5 ounces tincture of rhubarb, and spirits of lavender, of each 5 ounces tincture of opium, 3 ounces oils of anise and cinnamon, with gam camphor and tartaric acid, of each ounce. Mix. Dose, 1 tea-spoonful in a littlo warm water sweetened with loaf sugar repeat after each passage. This is a magic remedy. 

The high viscosity of tragacanth solutions makes it useful in pharmaceutical practice as a suspending agent in aqueous mixtures containing resinous tinctures (such as jalap and myrrh) and heavy insoluble powders. Glycerite of tragacanth is a useful excipient to bind pill masses. 

Gum infections elephant tree (Bursera microphylla) or myrrh Comiphora spp ), oak bark or rhatany Krameria spp.) tinctures in combination. 

Store tinctures in amber jars out of the sun. Alcohol-based tinctures will generally last for many years. Because of the shelf life and ease of dispensing, many herbalists prefer tinctures over capsules and infusions. Tinctures from various herbs can be combined for dispensing as a blend (although a certain few such as myrrh and propolis do not combine well). 

Plants as they dry lose their natural moisture content. Some plants, like myrrh gum, contain virtually none others, like mint, contain a great deal. When making a tincture of a dried plant you add back the amount of water that was present in the plant when it was fresh. Many books list the amount of water that should be added back. Spans and Tweens have been used to overcome similar problems in the formulation of medicines for internal use. The solubilization of resinous components of tinctures such as benzoin and myrrh in aqueous vehicles and the incorporation of water-soluble ingredients into oily vehicles has been discussed by Stoklosa and Ohmart [230]. Gerding and Sperandio [229] give examples of mixtures of tinctures and fluid extracts which, on addition of polysorbate 20, will not precipitate on dilution. Cetomacrogol 1000 added in small amounts to opiate linctus of squill, syrup of ginger, compound mixtures of camphor, and of lobelia and stramonium has a similar clearing action [207].
