Multiple ligands

The sonochemistry of solutes dissolved in organic Hquids also remains largely unexplored. The sonochemistry of metal carbonyl compounds is an exception (57). Detailed studies of these systems led to important mechanistic understandings of the nature of sonochemistry. A variety of unusual reactivity patterns have been observed during ultrasonic irradiation, including multiple ligand dissociation, novel metal cluster formation, and the initiation of homogeneous catalysis at low ambient temperature (57).

Once a structure of the desired protein has been solved, it is a very rapid process to produce subsequent high-quality structures and, in fact, some groups have even linked various scripts together, or modified software tools to provide much more automated software aids to repeated crystal structure solution, such as when solving multiple ligand complexes of the same protein [7]. 

Sonochemical ligand substitution readily occurs with a variety of other metal carbonyls, as shown in Table IV. In all cases, multiple ligand substitution originates directly from the parent carbonyl. The rates of sonochemical ligand substitution of the various metal carbonyls follow their relative volatilities, as predicted from the nature of the cavitational collapse.
