On the other hand, Nishimura and colleagues (374) obtained isobutyl amine and isoamyl amine from male mouse urine responsible for female puberty acceleration.

Mice are a favorite experimental animal for scientists interested in mammalian pheromones they are easy to breed they have well-defined genetic backgrounds and they rely on pheromones in a number of ways. My former colleague at Indiana University, Milos Novomy, did the first definitive work on mammalian pheromones in the house mouse. He has identified a number of primer pheromones in the urine of male mice that accelerate puberty and induce estrus in female mice. ... 

These results closely resemble those obtained with whole adult male urine as a stimulus (see Section 1.1), in tests of attractiveness performed on adult and prepubertal animals of both sexes. Both male urine and MUPs in native conformation (that is, with ligands bound to the inner hydrophobic binding site) are attractive to adult females and repulsive for adult male mice, while prepubertal animals show the opposite behaviors males are more attracted than females. Control experiments performed with prepubertal male urine did not induce these effects (Mucignat-Caretta, unpublished observations). We think that the subset of urinary odorants bound by MUPs is sufficient to signal the presence of an adult male mouse and to trigger behavioral responses. At variance with these effects, puberty onset acceleration in female mice is not induced by either the two major volatile compounds (Novotny, Jemiolo Harvey, 1990 pag. 5) typical of adult male mouse urine. 

Urine from adult intact male mice accelerates puberty in young females (Vandenbergh, 1969 Kennedy and Brown, 1970 Colby and Vandenbergh, 1974). This acceleratory effect is even greater when the male is actually present with the young female mouse (Andervont, 1944 Vandenbergh, 1967) due to...
