MOULD PACKING

Much of the shrinkage of a moulded body may be taken up by mould packing under the influence of post injection pressure, but residua shrinkage may... [Pg.235]

Slurry or slip casting provides a relatively inexpensive way to fabricate unifonn-thickness, thin-wall, or large cross section shapes [4o, 44, 45, 46, 42 aiid 48]. For slip casting, a slurry is first poured into a porous mould. Capillary suction then draws the liquid from the slurry to fonn a higher solids content, close-packed, leather-hard cast on the inner surface of the mould. In a fixed time, a given wall thickness is fonned, after which the excess slurry is drained. [Pg.2766]

Demonstrations (a) Give four injection-moulded close-packed planes to each student to allow personal building of f.c.c. and c.p.h. (b) Atomix atomic model on overhead projector to show atom packing (Emotion Productions Inc., 4825 Sainte Catherine O, Montreal 215PQ, Canada) or ball bearings on overhead projector. [Pg.291]

With crystalline polymers the more orderly molecular packing leads to much greater shrinkage. Variations in moulding conditions can lead to large variations in shrinkage and need to be closely controlled. The main factors which cause an increase in shrinkage are ... [Pg.176]

A decrease of injection time (an increase of injection time—up to a limit— would allow more material to be packed into the mould). [Pg.176]

High molecular weight HDPE (HMW-HDPE) is used for blown film and for demanding moulding and structural uses. Examples are blow moulded drums for packing dangerous chemicals and pressure piping. [Pg.244]

The bulk factor (i.e. ratio of the density of the moulding to the apparent powder density) of powder is usually about 2-3 but the high-shock grades may have bulk factors of 10-14 when loo.se, and still as high as 4-6 when packed in the mould. Powder grades are quite easy to pellet, but this is difficult with the fabric-filled grades. [Pg.650]

Two-pack systems (sometimes known as RTV-2 rubbers). These are widely used for making flexible moulds, particularly for craft work. [Pg.835]

The early 1980s saw considerable interest in a new form of silicone materials, namely the liquid silicone mbbers. These may be considered as a development from the addition-cured RTV silicone rubbers but with a better pot life and improved physical properties, including heat stability similar to that of conventional peroxide-cured elastomers. The ability to process such liquid raw materials leads to a number of economic benefits such as lower production costs, increased ouput and reduced capital investment compared with more conventional rubbers. Liquid silicone rubbers are low-viscosity materials which range from a flow consistency to a paste consistency. They are usually supplied as a two-pack system which requires simple blending before use. The materials cure rapidly above 110°C and when injection moulded at high temperatures (200-250°C) cure times as low as a few seconds are possible for small parts. Because of the rapid mould filling, scorch is rarely a problem and, furthermore, post-curing is usually unnecessary. [Pg.839]

Solution Although this runner system is symmetrical, it is not balanced. If the runner had the same diameter throughout all sections, then the mouldings close to the sprue would fill first and would be over-packed before the outermost... [Pg.288]

Volatile corrosion inhibitors are particularly useful when oil, grease or other adherent films are unsuitable. They should be used in conjunction with a primary wrap which should form as close an approach to a hermetically-sealed pack as possible. They are widely used to provide protection to precision tools, moulds and dies, and also on a larger scale to car body components. [Pg.763]

The beneficial effects are demonstrated of heterogeneous secondary pyrolysis reactions on the liquid products of PU pyrolysis. Pyrolysis volatiles are passed through a packed bed of carbonaceous solids that promote the secondary reactions. Activated carbon and reaction injection moulded PU (RIM) char were found to be suitable bed materials. The long-term object was to develop marketable solid products by pyrolysis of wastes, so obtaining high char yields. In addition to affecting the liquid products, RIM char also increased the total char... [Pg.88]

Glass containers are sterile on leaving the furnace, but are often stored in dusty conditions and packed for transport in eardboard boxes. As a result they eontain mould spores of PeniciIlium Aspergillus spp. and baeteria sueh 2 Bacillus spp. It... [Pg.348]

The Waters system uses a plastic cartridge which is inserted into a device (the Z-module) that subjects the column to radial compression, ie pressure is applied along the radial axis of the column tube. The flexible wall of the column then moulds itself into the voids that are present in the wall regions of the column. This method is claimed to produce an improvement in the packed bed structure, better column performance and longer useful column life. [Pg.41]

A sheet of rubber or of rubber-textile composite moulded, if desired, to a particular shape and used in a wide variety of applications in industry, e.g., diaphragm packings, diaphragm-operated valves for steam, air or liquids. [Pg.22]

It is interesting to note that tea bricks (see Fig. 4) - blocks of whole or finely ground tea leaves that have been packed in moulds and pressed into block form -were used centuries ago as a form of currency due to the high value of tea in many parts of Asia. [Pg.507]
