Molecular distributions

Besides the expressions for a surface derived from the van der Waals surface (see also the CPK model in Section 2.11.2.4), another model has been established to generate molecular surfaces. It is based on the molecular distribution of electronic density. The definition of a Limiting value of the electronic density, the so-called isovalue, results in a boundary layer (isoplane) [187]. Each point on this surface has an identical electronic density value. A typical standard value is about 0.002 au (atomic unit) to represent electronic density surfaces. [Pg.129]

C02-0002. Elemental bromine, chlorine, and iodine exist as diatomic molecules. Chlorine is a gas at room temperature, bromine is a liquid, and iodine is a solid. Draw molecular pictures that show the molecular distributions in samples of chlorine, bromine, and iodine. [Pg.74]

The parameter p is the intermediary connecting the reaction kinetics and the molecular distribution. It expresses the probability that... [Pg.334]

The molecular distributions for polymers formed by condensations involving polyfunctional units of the type R—A/ resemble those for the branched polymers mentioned above, except for the important modification introduced by the incidence of gelation. The generation of an infinite network commences abruptly at the gel point, and the a-mount of this gel component increases progressively with further condensation. Meanwhile, the larger, more complex, species of the sol are selectively combined with the gel fraction, with the result that the sol fraction decreases in average molecular complexity as well as in amount. It is important to observe that the distinction between soluble finite species on the one hand and infinite network on the other invariably is sharp and by no means arbitrary. [Pg.393]

Derivation of the Molecular Distribution for the Random Condensation of Bifunctional with Pol3ffunctional Monomers. —Let a bifunctional monomer A----- A condense with a polyfunctional monomer... [Pg.393]

Nabika, H., Fukasawa, A. and Murakoshi, K. (2008) Tuning the dynamics and molecular distribution of the selfspreading lipid bilayer. Phys, Chem, Chem, Phys., 10, 2243-2248. [Pg.238]

Garmer DR, Stevens WJ (1989) Transferability of molecular distributed polarizabilities from a simple localized orbital based method. J Phys Chem 93 8263... [Pg.170]

In this chapter we have explored the various methods by which polymer scientists characterize the molecular structure of polymers. Given the complex molecular distribution found in most polymers, the best that we can do in many cases is to measure some average value or distribution of values that represents the polymer. Armed with these values polymer scientists and engineers can design or select resins suitable for a myriad of practical applications. [Pg.120]

Molecular Distribution Functions for the Entropy Density in an Infinite System. [Pg.154]

Liquid chromatography (LC) and, in particular, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), is at present the most popular and widely used separation procedure based on a quasi-equilibrium -type of molecular distribution between two phases. Officially, LC is defined as a physical method... in which the components to be separated are distributed between two phases, one of which is stationary (stationary phase) while the other (the mobile phase) moves in a definite direction [ 1 ]. In other words, all chromatographic methods have one thing in common and that is the dynamic separation of a substance mixture in a flow system. Since the interphase molecular distribution of the respective substances is the main condition of the separation layer functionality in this method, chromatography can be considered as an excellent model of other methods based on similar distributions and carried out at dynamic conditions. [Pg.167]

The haptophyte microalga Emiliania huxleyi produces biomarkers in the form of long-chain (C37, C38, and C39) alkenones (Brassell, 1993). Alkenones are well preserved in marine sediments and their molecular distributions and isotopic composition have been used to infer paleo-temperatures (Brassell, 1993) and pC022 values (Jasper et ak, 1994), respectively. Unsaturation patterns in the alkenone series are related to the growth temperature of the haptophyte algae that produce these compounds (Brassell et ak, 1986 Prahl and Wakeham, 1987), and hold great promise as indicators of absolute ocean paleotemperature. [Pg.69]
