Modelling possibilities and limitations

This section does not contain any fundamentals or mathematics bur tries to describe the basic energy flows and the methods used in thermal building-dynamics simulation codes to model these. Also, the methods are described without stating the underlying algorithms and equations, for which the reader is referred to the literature and references. A short outline of how these models affect the application possibilities and limits is given at the end of this section and also in Section 11.3.7. 

Acyloxy)methyl carbamates (and A-[l-(acyloxy)alkoxycarbonyl] compounds in general) have the formula RR,N-C0-0-CHR,/-0-C0-R,/, where R" = H or Me, and COR " = acyl. Acetoxymethyl carbamates of model amines have yielded important information on the possibilities and limitations of these potential prodrugs. For secondary amine derivatives, a clean mechanism of activation was characterized, shown in Fig. 8.19 for one of the model compounds investigated [209]. Hydrolysis of the terminal ester moiety (Fig. 8.19, Reaction a) triggers the two subsequent breakdown reactions (Fig. 8.19, Reactions b and c). For compound 8.162 (Fig. 8.19), the tu2 value in buffer at pH 7.4 and 37° was 98 h, while it was 6.2 h in human plasma [210]. The parent secondary amine was hydrolyzed quantitatively. 

In order to investigate the possibilities and limitations of the use of precision-cut liver slices prepared with a mechanical sheer in drug transport studies, different aspects of the mechanism of uptake of several classes of drugs in human and rat liver slices were investigated in our laboratory. The examples that are presented above are meant to illustrate the possibilities and limitations of various assays for constituents of complex networks. Although analytical expressions in general may be rather complicated, conditions frequently can be found that considerably simplify the results. Thus, appropriate mathematical models can yield important insights into assay design.

An intermediate case (Bazin et al., 2002) between bulk and surface diffraction is reached for nanoparticles when the contribution from surface atoms becomes significant and diffraction analysis in the limit of infinite periodic lattice models inadequately describes the diffraction data. A case study with diamond nanoparticles (Palosz et al., 2002) describes elegantly the possibilities and limitations of diffraction analysis of such samples there is a focus on the nonperiodic structure such as strain and disorder induced by the dominant presence of a nonideal surface termination. 

In previous sections almost all the basic algorithms of the synthon model of organic chemistry were briefly sketched. In this subsection we will present a more rigorous and detailed definition of the key algorithms, as the exact definition is needed for deep understanding of the possibilities, and limitations, of the synthon model.

In the previous problem PHRQPITZ was used to define the final invariant composition of the aqueous phase in the evaporation of seawater. Some of the possibilities and limitations in modeling the initial stages of the evaporation of seawater are now considered. 

If operated in accordance with its possibilities and limitations, discriminant analysis can provide classification models for dichotomous endpoints in environmental sciences, such as biodegradability (section 4.8) and mutagenicity (section 5.7). 

Below we shall describe this model in more detail and study its possibilities and limitations (because it has serious limitations), but first a few words about eleetron densities and moleeular orbitals in general. 

The micro structiures and the corresponding functional models are not yet industry-proof. However, they demonstrate the possibilities and limitations of individual elements of a p-TAS. A continuation of this research work should focus on combining the various elements to a complete p-TAS, which is adapted to a specific on-line analysis problem.
