The integral equation approach has also been explored in detail for electrolyte solutions, with the PY equation proving less usefiil than the HNC equation. This is partly because the latter model reduces cleanly to the MSA model for small h 2) since... [Pg.583]

Mesh strainers finer than 100 mesh/inch (<150 /rm) should be treated as microfilters. Coarser strainers up to 50 mesh/inch (300 /rm) may generate significant static when fouled with accumulated debris, so should be treated as microfilters except in cases where fouling is not expected or may be rapidly identified by either periodic inspection or monitored pressure drop. Clean strainers should nevertheless be placed as far upstream as practical for nonconductive liquid service. A theoretical model for the charging process in strainers (screens) is given in [119-120]. Viscous nonconductive liquids (5-2.5.4) may produce unusually high charging currents in strainers. [Pg.118]

With correct experimental procedure TDS is straightforward to use and has been applied extensively in basic experiments concerned with the nature of reactions between pure gases and clean solid surfaces. Most of these applications have been catalysis-related (i. e. performed on surfaces acting as models for catalysts) and TDS has always been used with other techniques, e.g. UPS, ELS, AES, and LEED. To a certain extent it is quantifiable, in that the area under a desorption peak is proportional to the number of ions of that species desorbed in that temperature range, but measurement of the area is not always easy if several processes overlap. [Pg.178]

One of the most common systems for cleaning air in homes, offices, schools, etc. is the room air cleaner. Figure 8.2 outlines a model of a local recirculating system. Usually these units are situated inside the room if they are small and movable (see Chapter 10). For the model it does not matter if the unit is placed inside or outside the room with the contaminant source, as long as the exhaust and return air openings are inside. [Pg.616]

Where low-cost labor is available, operators can provide intensive manual cleaning during the annual plant shutdown period. However, this is not a model for operational efficiency, and low-cost labor is seldom that low when quality and productivity is factored in. In the long run, it usually is far better to aim for a higher operational standard from the beginning. [Pg.52]

Clean Air Models. Models developed to simulate clean air chemistry generally have the least amount of chemical parameterization. Several recent zero-dimensional models (95,155,156) and one-dimensional models (157,158) have presented calculated HO concentrations for clean air. Two dimensional models have also provided predictions for global [HO ] (58,159,160,161). Three dimensional models that provide information... [Pg.88]

In the campaign context of a batch plant, it is important to note that throughput and cycle time should include time required for cleaning, transportation and maintenance as these can dramatically affect the overall times and the utilization of any part of a plant. For example, a simple model developed from the AstraZeneca survey calculates the time for a... [Pg.240]

Figures 3 and 4 show the scatter plots for the detailed model for the four clean days, together with a 1 1 line representing the case of an ideal agreement. The model clearly has a tendency to overestimate the measured [OH], In particular on 15 and 16 February the scatter plots are well below the 1 1 line, except for low values of OH, which correspond to the evening tail . The scatter plots for 15 and 16 February also have the same slope indicating the similarity between the two days. 7 February shows the best agreement between the model and the measurements. The strengths of the model are its natural connection to supemovae and star formation and that the supernova remnant would have enough time to form iron via the decay of nickel and cobalt to possibly produce the claimed iron lines. Moreover, it is expected to be a baryon-clean environment. The model is, however, very sensitive to the fine tuning of parameters. Moreover, GRB030329 places a rather strict limit of a few hours on the delay between the SN and the GRB and thus rules out the supranova model for at least this particular burst. [Pg.317]

The old scrubber technique is in fact very attractive for post-CMP cleaning as the same mechanical effect is active for all the materials present at the surface (insulators, metal barriers). Doubled-sided scrubbers for cleaning the frontside and the backside of the wafer and lateral brushes to take care of the wafer side are now proposed on the market. Furthermore, the implementation of megasonic sprays in the scrubber can sometimes help for difficult cases. The major limitation is in terms of cost of ownership (COO) as a single-wafer process is involved. Indeed according to Witt et al. [17] who used the standard SEMATECH COO model, brush cleaning is more than three times more expensive than wet cleaning, which was confirmed by other economic studies [18]. [Pg.202]
