Municipal sewage sludge

Washing and dewatering by air displacement of cakes are possible. AppHcations are in the treatment of minerals, in the sugar industry, and in the treatment of municipal sewage sludge and fillers like talc, clay, whiting, etc. [Pg.404]

Ana.eroblc Digestion. Methane can be produced from water slurries of biomass by anaerobic digestion in the presence of mixed populations of anaerobes. This process has been used for many years to stabilize municipal sewage sludges for purposes of disposal. Presuming the biomass is all cellulose, the chemistry can be represented in simplified form as follows ... [Pg.17]

Kepro [Kemira process] A process for recovering valuable products from municipal sewage sludge. Laboratory-Scale Reactors. Laboratory-scale sterns consisted of small continuously stirred tank reactors (CSTR) with 3.5-liter worlong volumes and were constructed and operated as previously described (62). The digester inoculum for these systems was obtained from the anaerobic digestion of municipal sewage sludge from the Denver... [Pg.27]

Pilot-Scale Reactor. Anaerobic digester effluent was obtained from a non-mixed pilot-scale reactor system operated at Walt Disney World, Orlando, FL, and fed an RDF MSW/sludge blend (64). The MSW feedstock was obtained from Baltimore, MD, and the municipal sewage sludge from the Walt Disney World Complex. Fresh effluent samples were sealed under anaerobic conditions and shipped overnight in ice for analysis. [Pg.28]

In a similar study, Versar, Inc., in 1974-1975, demonstrated for EPA that DDT and 2,4,5-T formulations were destroyed in a municipal sewage sludge incinerator in Palo Alto, California (5). The pesticides were added to sludge (which contained 20% by weight of solids) to form a mixture that was 2 to 5% by weight in pesticides. Destruction efficiencies ranged from 99.95 to 99.99% for an average hearth temperature from 600 to 690°C and an afterburner temperature from 650 to 660°C. [Pg.182]

Cresols are released to soil at landfills and hazardous waste sites. In general, cresols will degrade in soil very rapidly. However, cresols may persist in soil under anaerobic conditions or due to the toxic effects of high concentrations of cresols or other associated compounds. Tables 5-2a through 5- 2e include monitoring data for these sources. The land application of municipal sewage sludges that contain cresols may also release cresols to soil (Demirjian et al. 1984, 1987). [Pg.117]

BAC has been formulated to minimize the cost of adsorbent by using waste as its starter material. BAC is made from a mixture of approximately 85% waste coal fines and 15% municipal sewage sludge on a dry basis. Both materials have very low or no cost and have attributes that contribute to good pore development. [Pg.344]

Privatized Biotherm Process plants (i.e., plants developed on a bnild, own, and operate basis by American Biotherm, L.L.C.) to dry municipal sewage sludge are being developed. The Dehydro-Tech Corporation, the developer of the Carver Greenfield Process, became American Biotherm, L.L.C., in late December 1996. American Biotherm, L.L.C. now commercially offers the Biotherm Process. [Pg.347]
