Mining Applications

Data mining in chemistry focuses on the extraction and evaluation of information in chemical data sets. In contrast to other fields of data mining applications, chemical data mining does not confine itself to conventional database queries but rather generates new information from the data. [Pg.474]

The explorative analysis of data sets by visual data mining applications takes place in a three-step process During the first step (overview), the user can obtain an overview of the data and maybe can identify some basic relationships between specific data points. In the second step (filtering), dynamic and interactive navigation, selection, and query tools will be used to reorganize and filter the data set. Each interaction by the user will lead to an immediate update of the data scene and will reveal the hidden patterns and relationships. Finally, the patterns or data points can be analyzed in detail with specific detail tools. [Pg.476]

The chemical intermediates adiponitrile and acrylamide have surpassed nitrile rubbers as end-use products of acrylonitrile in the United States and Japan. Adiponitrile is further converted to hexamethylenediamine (HMDA), which is used to manufacture nylon 6/6. Acrylamide is used to produce water-soluble polymers or copolymers used for paper manufacturing, waste treatment, mining applications and enhanced oil recovery (Langvardt, 1985 Brazdil, 1991). [Pg.46]

Data mining applications aim at the automatic discovery of new information in available data. Because extraction of data from unstructured text is very difficult, current applications usually work with data that is in some way structured. [Pg.100]

RelaxNG is a very powerful schema language that is much simpler to use and comprehend then W3C XML Schema. It is particularly suitable for validation of flexible data and for fast prototyping. This makes it the validation language of choice in data mining applications where diverse sources are processed and combined. [Pg.106]

Applications that require a lot of data in memory or have specific programming requirements may benefit from custom-made data models. Data mining applications, with their large volumes of data, often belong to this class of software, but this does not mean W3C DOM is entirely unusable. Some implementations of the DOM model do not require all data to reside in memory and allow very large documents to be processed. [Pg.107]

XML has started the second decade of its official existence, and already in its early years it has deeply influenced many areas of information processing. Its promise for scientific information exchange is only slowly being fulfilled, but recent developments are very positive. XML formats are replacing their text predecessors, so an understanding of XML technologies is a must for anyone interested in data mining applications. [Pg.117]

Methylol Formation. Polyacrylamide reacts with fomraldehyde to form air A-nretlrylol derivative. Tire reaction is conducted at pH 7-8.8 to avoid cross-linking, which will occur at lower pH. Tire copolymer can also be prepared by copolynrerbing acrylamide with commercially available AT-metlrylolacrylarrride [924-42-5], C4H N02. These derivatives are useful in several mining applications (49,50). They are also useful as chemical grouts. [Pg.141]

Spontaneous Combustion Liability of Subbituminous Coals Development of a Simplified Test Method for Field Lab/Mine Applications... [Pg.1]

The modified nonadiabatic method described for the determination of the spontaneous combustion liability of subbituminous coals can yield satisfactory results. However, a more realistic measurement of a coal s self-heating tendency might be obtained through the use of an adiabatic system. In this case, heat derived from the coal oxidation would not be transferred to the surroundings. A spontaneous combustion instrument intended for field or lab/mine applications should be less complex, yet it should be capable of producing data that is reasonably accurate for predicting the self-heating characteristics of coals. [Pg.10]

Data mining is a term used for a group of techniques used in finding useful patterns in the datasets. This approach consists in the analysis of huge data depositories in search of useful correlations between material properties and their composition.
