Mineralization inhibition

Antirust properties (inhibited mineral oils) NFT 60-151 ISO 7120 ASTM D 665 Spots on a test tube after agitation with oil water... [Pg.446]

Uses. Propargyl alcohol is a component of oil-well acidizing compositions, inhibiting the attack of mineral acids on steel (see Corrosion and CORROSION control). It is also employed in the pickling and plating of metals. [Pg.105]

Tin finds widespread use beeause of its resistanee to eorrosion, or as foil or to provide proteetive eoats/plates for other metals. Properties of lead whieh make industrial applieation attraetive surround its soft, plastie nature permitting it to be rolled into sheets or extruded through dies. In the finely-divided state lead powder is pyrophorie in bulk form the rapidly-formed proteetive oxide layer inhibits further reaetion. It dissolves slowly in mineral aeids. Industrial uses inelude roofing material, piping, and vessel linings, e.g. for aeid storage. [Pg.30]

The products of oil oxidation will attack metals, and this can be prevented by keeping the system free from pro-oxidative impurities and by the use of anti-oxidants. These additives will not, however, prevent rusting of ferrous surfaces when air and water are present in the mineral oil. The presence of absorbed air and moisture is inevitable in lubricating systems and therefore the oil must be inhibited against rusting. These additives, which are homogeneously mixed with the oil, have an affinity for metal, and a strongly absorbed oil film is formed on the metal surface, which prevents the access of air and moisture. [Pg.847]

An example of a relatively simple, but effective, test method is that developed for inhibited mineral oils in the presence of water (BS 2000 Part 135 1983). Typically, in these tests, a mixture of the inhibited oil and distilled water or sea-water in specified proportions is stirred at 60°C in a beaker containing a steel specimen for a test period of 24 h, followed by a visual inspection for rusting. Similar test procedures exist for inhibited fuel products. [Pg.1084]

Electrostatic devices These devices provide a static field within the water via the production of a very high localized voltage (but low current). It is claimed that this field physically affects the dissolved mineral ions and inhibits the precipitation of scale. [Pg.334]

Alendronate, etidronate, and risedronate act primarily on the bone by inhibiting normal and abnormal bone resorption. This results in increased bone mineral density, reversing the progression of osteoporosis. [Pg.192]
