Milliken textiles

Milliken Textiles reduced its time-to-market from 36 months to 6 months by aggressive supplier partnerships and management. First Chicago National Bank instituted a centralized procurement function headed by a senior vice president that achieved some notable success in the first few years, including ... [Pg.438]

Work on CP-coated fabrics has been promising. Kuhn et al. at the Milliken textile company [269, 270] have demonstrated attenuations (Insertion Losses) as high as 28 dB at 8 - 10 GHz with P(Py)-coated glass-fiber fabrics. Olmedo et al. [486] studied textiles into which P(ANi) and poly(alkyl thiophenes) were incorporated, and observed that the dielectric properties are not affected drastically by varying dopant and monomer chain length, but do depend on doping level (Figs. 12-9a,b). [Pg.338]

The most well-known and most advanced work to date in CP-based conductive textiles has been that of Kuhn and coworkers at the Milliken Research Corp., Spartanburg, SC, USA, a division of the Milliken textiles group [268, 269, 485, 883]. This work involves the in-situ, template-type chemical polymerization of CPs, primarily poly (pyrrole), onto individual textile fibers, yielding a continuous. [Pg.536]

Other CPs are produced in large quantities inhouse by many companies for marketing as products for specific applications. Milliken Research Corporation, for example, supplies PPy-coated textiles for microwave absorption, ESD, and other uses. Ashwin-Ushas Corporation markets several different electrochromic devices for the visible, IR, and microwave regions. Sigma-Aldrich, Inc. offers a wide range of CPs from the main polymer classes and a complete complement of monomer precursors. [Pg.535]

Polypyrrole-polyester (Milliken Style 205 doped with 1,5-naphthalenedisolfonic acid) fabric cellular responses were also investigated by Jakubiec et al. [119], who indicated that high levels of electrical conductivity (100-200 fl/square) was detrimental and resulted in low cell migration, proliferation, and endothelial cell viability. The coated textile system was shown to influence both the morphology and the function of mammalian cells in vitro. [Pg.438]

Pyrrole has been in situ polymerized onto the surface of textile fabrics [119,120]. A number of polypyrrole-coated fabrics, trade name Contex, have been produced by Milliken Research Corporation [119,120]. [Pg.940]

Several other groups have since published studies involving the stability of polypyrrole and polypyrrole-coated textiles. A plot produced from data obtained at Milliken Research Corporation that displays the resistance as a function of time at several different temperatures for an anthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid doped polypyrrole-coated textile is shown in Fig. 35.8. Similar results were obtained by Truong and coworkers [82,831 and Thieblemont and coworkers [ 16,841. Contrary to the earlier reports, these studies concluded that the kinetic of polypyrrole degradation are not first-order but follow a diffusion-controlled curve similar to a Frickian sorption plot. [Pg.1004]
