Transesterification. Six to 30 moles of methyl or ethyl acetate, methyl caprinate, laurate, oleate, stearate or methacrylate was added to a DMF solution of one mole of sucrose chelate. The reaction mixtures were allowed to stand 3 h at 100° or 120°C and analyzed. [Pg.64]

Among the compounds commonly determined in research laboratories are diacetyl, 2,3-butandiol, glycerol, citramalic acid, amino acids (especially proline), histamine, ammonia, succinic acid, phosphate, ash, alkalinity of the ash, ethyl, acetate, methyl anthranilate, total volatile esters, higher alcohols (both total and individually) phenolic compounds, etc. An elegant method for determining ethyl esters, capronate, caprylate, caprinate, and laurate using carbon disulfide extraction and GLC has been published (123). [Pg.153]

Asahina and Nakamura (J. Pharm. Soc. Japan, No. 322, Dec. 1908, via SchimmeVs Report, April 1909, 59) have obtained somewhat different oil from one-year-old twigs from the Japanese Province of Shizuoka. Its characters were specific gravity 0.892, optical rotation -1-6° 8, acid value 4.3, saponification value 19.1, ditto after acetylation 56.5 soluble in 14 volumes of 85 per cent alcohol, opalescent on further dilution. Methyl chavicol was the chief constituent, with 6 per cent of citral eugenol and cineole. A trace of pinene also seemed to be present with caprinic and oleic acids. It is of interest to note that this oil contained no anethole it differed from the preceding oils in containing eugenol and in being dextro-rotatory. [Pg.102]

There have been a number of other papers on the hydration of biopolymers the effects of the degree of methylation of pectins on the proton relaxation times of water have been measured 50 l70 relaxation has been used to examine the hydration of bovine and caprine casein,51--54 and solid-state NMR combined with atomic force microscopy has been used to examine the influence of water on the nanomechanical behaviour of cutin.55 The effects of locust bean gum on water diffusion in sugar solutions has shown little effect,56 and the effects of gellan gum hydrogel structure on restricted diffusion has also been considered.57... [Pg.112]
