In 1997 Bayer AG increased chlorine production at its Uerdingen site by adding Krupp Uhde membrane electrolysers to the existing mercury cells. In order to achieve a high chlorine quality (minimum oxygen concentration) and maximum chlorine yield, the acidic process is run - namely the brine leaves the cells at a low pH of 2.5-3. 

Literature has revealed limited kinetic data on secondary nucleation of alumina trihydrate in the precipitator of the Bayer Process for alumina production. A batch agitated, isothermal, three litre crystallizer was used in the study. A Coulter-Counter was utilized as the particle sizing equipment. The effects of seed density, supersaturation and temperature on secondary nucleation were investigated. Maximum nucleation rates were found to occur at about 70 C and for any crystallization temperature, the nucleation rate passed through a maximum. Polyamides and polyesteramides are more recent arrivals to the commercial biodegradable polymer field. Copolymers of either glycine or serine with e-aminocaproic acid are biodegradable. For example, biodegradable polyaspartic acid was synthesized (95% yield) at low cost [Koskan, 1992]. A copolymer of butylene-adipate and e-caprolactam was recently introduced by Bayer as BAK 1095. The material has T = 125°C, density of 1070 kg/m, tensile modulus of 180 MPa, maximum strain at break of 400%, tensile stress at break of 25 MPa, and it fully degrades in 300 days under the ASTM standard conditions.

Loos (2011) reported that investigators from Bayer Material Science LLC, USA and Moulded Fibre Glass, Cleveland, USA have developed a prototype wind turbine blade 0.74 metre long manufactured from polyurethane reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNT PU). The researchers claim that the advanced material has a specific tensile strength of five times and 60 times that of carbon fibre composite and aluminium respectively and is tougher than CFRP furthermore, the stiffer but thinner blades enable maximum energy to be produced. 

The solubility of carbon dioxide (Messer-Griesheim, 5.0) in polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) Makrolon 2400 (Bayer AG), cp. Tab. 5.3 and [5.29], and the swelling of the polymer have been measured at T=308 K using the oscillometric-manometric method [5.27]. Results are presented in Figure 5.19. The reduced masses (Q =m -p V ) resulting from manometric measurements, cp. Eq. (5.74), are indicated by ( ). As clearly can be seen, these data increase at low pressures (p < 3.5 MPa) to have a maximum at p = 3.5 MPa, then to decrease and even assume negative values... 

Carbon nanotubes (CNT) are key elements of nanotechnology. Those produced by Bayer as Baytubes and have a maximum mean diameter of 50 nm and are 10,000 times thinner than a human hair.
