The cytologic findings on vaginal smears vary depending on the preparation used. However, with almost all of the combined drugs, a low maturation index is found because of the presence of progestational agents. [Pg.907]

Carbon Preference Index (32). This index, devised by Bray and Evans to be used as a maturity index decreases as the sediment increases maturation to a limit of one. Carvalhaes C28) showed that an Irati sample submitted to a maximum of 509C in its thermal history, presented a CPI of 1.58 indicating it to be a reasonably mature sediment. Nooner Oro (29) gave the values of 1.05 for this Formation. [Pg.34]

Faced with this complexity, the proposal of a maturity index from UV spectrophoto-metric data supposes considering the evolution of the whole spectrum. The first step is the identification of the particular experimental spectra that permit explaining any other spectrum as a linear combination of these reference spectra [24]. This procedure is the semi-deterministic one, presented in Chapter 2 and already applied in the previous applications. These spectra are automatically selected from the set of a great number of spectra of raw extracts of composts (including humic and fulvic acids) or related to a gel chromatographic fraction. Four reference spectra have been selected from the spectra bank, corresponding respectively to the spectra of (Fig. 18) ... [Pg.258]

The second step of the study of a maturity index is the deconvolution of spectra of K4P2O7 extracts obtained from composts of various ages, with the basis of reference spectra. The coefficient contribution variation, related to the reference spectra, is followed with time. The general tendency is an increase with time of the coefficient of spectra 1 and 2 (called C1 and C2, respectively) and a decrease of the coefficient of spectra 3 and 4 (called C3 and C4, respectively). [Pg.258]

The composition of the basis of reference spectra and the general evolution of the coefficients are closely linked to the various states of the evolution of organic matter during composting. A maturity index can thus be proposed from the values of these coefficients. [Pg.258]

UV spectroscopy is thus an interesting analytical tool to study and monitor organic matter humification. In spite of some necessary validation, this method defines a new, easy-to-run maturity index of compost. Of course, this new method can also be used... [Pg.259]

Fig. 6. Carbon isotope compositions of total oils, Pr and Ph versus thermal maturity (Evolution Index) for oils from northeast Japan (Ishiwatari et aL, 2001). Data for total oils are quoted from Waseda (1993). Data for biodegraded oils are omitted. Definition of Evolution Index is a ratio of n-heptane to 1,3-dimethyl-cyclopentane (Hiratsuka, 1976). A thermal maturity index of L/(H L)-sterane (definition is given in the text) is quoted from Sakata et al. (1990) for comparison. Open circles total oils closed circles Pr and Ph (average values). Some of these FA ratios may prove useful in chemometric studies to discriminate oils on the basis of origin (Aparicio et al., 1999) because they showed great variability depending on the crop seasons, maturity index and the genetie faetor. [Pg.213]

The samples were prepared by adding 100 grams of plastic sample to 600 grams of mature soil compost in a 5-liter glass jar. The mature compost, 2-3 months old, had a pH of 8.7, ash content of 35%, and Carbon/Nitrogen (C/N) ratio of 10. The C/N ratio was calculated based upon carbon dioxide and ammonia measurements taken with the Sol vita instrument on the compost at the beginning of the test. Solvita is an easy-to-use test that measures both carbon dioxide (CO2) and ammonia (NH3) levels in the soil and also indicates a Maturity Index value. The index is useful for maturity level of the compost soil (Solvita Test Kit 2013). The blank compost had a Solvita overall maturity index of 7... [Pg.293]

Unfortunately, no simple methods currently exist that permit an aromatic substance maturation index. Tasting the grape remains, in this respect, the only available criterion for judgments but this does not estimate the subsequent revelation of other aromas. [Pg.262]
