Mass per unit area

Often geotextiles are incorrectly referred to by a shortened version of their mass per unit area by stating only their weight. Thus, a geotextile with a 220-g/m mass per unit area would be incorrectly referred to as a 220-g geotextile. This completely disregards the area over which the 220 g is measured and can lead to miscommuni-cation if used.

Notice that the units work out correctly in this calculation area multiplied by mass per unit area gives mass. There are 2.2 pounds in 1 kg, so a mass of 36 kg is about 100 lb. This is a reasonable mass of fertilizer for a field.

These quasi-static pressures are determined by the total heat energy in the explosive and/or combustible source, the volume of the enclosure, the vent area and the vent panel configuration, the mass per unit area of vent covers, and the initial ambient conditions within the enclosure.

Another notion regarding the interfacial viscosity is as a measure of the motion of an interfacial layer.
