Powdered talc

Sheet form, composed of organic roofing felt, saturated with asphalt and coating on both sides with asphalt compound that may or may not contain mineral stabiHzer, surfaced with powdered talc, mica, or other tine mineral matter to prevent sticking. Classified, in mineral net mass per unit area of roofing, as Type I, 1943 g/m (39.8 lb/100 fC) Type II, 2666 g/m (54.6 lb/100 fC) Type III, 2495 g/m (51.1 lb/100 fC) and Type IV, 1943 g/m (39.8 Ib/lOOfC). [Pg.215]

Powder for external use e.g. NEBASULF, boric acid powder, zinc oxide powder, talc etc. Tooth powder may also be classified under this group. [Pg.11]

Vol. II, p. 460). Some of the L.D. explosives can be classified as Eq.S. explosives. S-Shoan dynamite contains powdered talc besides ordinary cooling salts and possesses a high degree of safety. [Pg.472]

Hardness, creep resistance, dimensional stability, and the coefficient of thermal expansion, can be improved by reinforcing materials or fillers, i.e., (micro) glass spheres, glass fibers, graphite, aluminum powder, talc, chalk, silicates, and carbonates. [Pg.84]

In tabletting, the powder is firmly compressed in a die to be shaped into small cylinders, rings and even beads. In most cases some plasticizing agents are added to the powder (talc, graphite, stearic acid, etc.). One may also use porosity additives (powder of an easily decomposed compound, polymer fibres, etc.). Tabletting is one of the few forming operations which has been studied systematically. [Pg.551]

To fight fire, operators and firefighters can approach a magnesium fire to within a few feet if no moisture is present. Water and ordinar) extinguishers, such as CO2, carbon tetrachloride, etc., should not be used on magnesium fires. G-1 powder or powdered talc should be used on open fires. [Pg.850]

To prevent Bumping. — In vacuum distillations a troublesome bumping (a sudden, violent ebullition) frequently occurs- To prevent this a slow, continuous current of air is drawn through the liquid, thus keeping it in constant motion. The air current, controlled by a pinch-cock, must not be allowed to enter too rapidly, otherwise. it will be difficult to maintain a high vacuum. The same effect may be obtained by placing certain substances in the liquid — splinters of wood the size of a match, capillary tubes, bits of glass, pieces of porcelain, powdered talc, scraps of platinum wire or foil. Small pieces of pumice-stone bound with platinum... [Pg.31]

YTTRIUM (7440-65-5) Y Flammable in the form of dust in air pyrophoric. Reacts with water, steam, releasing flammable hydrogen gas. Reacts with oxidizers, halogens strong acids strong bases peroxides. On small fires, use only approved Class D extinguishers (e.g., Met-L-X or Lith-X ), or smother with special G-1" powders, dry powdered talc, dry sand, dry clay, dry crushed limestone, dry graphite. [Pg.1089]

The form of magnesium silicate hydroxide with which most people are familiar is talc, the main ingredient in talcum powder. Talcum powder is used directly as a skin treatment, especially for babies, primarily as a moisture absorbent and for soothing the skin. It is also used in a number of cosmetic products, including blushes, eye shadows, make-up foundations, and face powders. Talc is also used widely as an additive to give products a smoother texture. Some products in which it is found include paints, rubber products, roofing materials, ceramics and insecticides. Other applications of talc include ... [Pg.425]
