Yesterday at 10 00 a.m., Mark Spencer, the popular Director of the Smithfield Museum of Art, held a press conference. The room was buzzing with reporters as Mr. Spencer took the podium. Standing to his right was a striking woman with a crimson suit. Mr. Spencer first discussed the soon-to-be-launched artist-in-residence program as well as the upcoming annual fundraising dinner, which has been the hottest ticket in town ever since Mr. Spencer came to the Smithfield.

All tested brands had at least several items containing nonylphenol ethoxylates, or NPEs. Greenpeace warns that some of the chemicals released, when NPEs break down in water treatment plants or in rivers, were hormone-disrupting chemicals. NPEs were found in 89 garments - just under two-thirds of those tested. The highest concentrations of NPEs - above 1,000 parts per million - were found in clothing items from Zara, Metersbonwe, Levi s, C A, Mango, Calvin Klein, Jack Jones and Marks Spencer. 

Marks Spencer (M S), which is operating in a partnership with Reliance Retail, has marked India as its single most important market , where it plans to implement its Plan A to combat green challenges . 

Marks Spencer promises to change 50% of a total of 2.7 billion sold articles into Plan A-products imtil the year 2015. 

Not only Marks Spencer works on the Plan. They also started a competition for their customers to present their ideas for the topic environmentalism . The winner of the competition Your Green Idea will get the prize money of 100,000, which the winner then has to spend to an organization of his/her choice. 

Wal-Mart has pledged to work more closely with suppliers to reduce Its environmental Impact. The retailer, which owns supermarket Asda In the UK, has launched the Sustainability 360 programme to make Its suppliers and customers greener. The news follows similar announcements by Marks Spencer and Tesco. 

The enormous success of vertical retailers like H M, Zara, Gap and Next in the apparel industry in the last 10 years has forced manufacturers of brand labels like Esprit and Levi, and department stores like El Corte Ingles and Marks Spencer, to speed up their supply chains. Partly, this has been achieved by integrating their processes and systems upstream (towards their suppliers) and downstream (towards their end-customers) in the supply chain. 

The factors behind the gap between vision and reality are many, reflecting the sophisticated web of processes and coordination that lie behind the vision and the almost endless ways of cormpting it. UK retailer Marks Spencer introduced... 

A change in management structure at Marks Spencer created a new category team, many of whom did not like the idea of sharing sales data with suppliers. The method used to generate sales data was changed, and resulted in loss of access to the flow of sales data on which the VMI system depended.
