The Eco-innovation initiative was itself part of the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) for the years 2007-2013. With SMEs as its main target, the CIP Framework Programme supported innovation activities (including the eco-innovation initiative), provided for better access to finance and delivered business support services, such as the Enterprise Europe Network. As part of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme of the CIP [57], the Eco-innovation First Application and Market Replication Projects Initiative [58] aimed at filling the gap between research and the market nptake of innovative products.
